It often produces its most obvious symptoms in and around the jaw. Common TMJ symptoms include:
-Clicking or popping in the jaw joint
-Pain or swelling around the jaw
-Limited jaw movement
However, because major nerves that run through your jaw also run through your entire face, symptoms can be far-ranging. They may include things such as migraine-type headaches and pressure in the ears and eyes as well. Some studies indicate that as much as 80% of TMJ sufferers also experience ear-related symptoms, such as tinnitus, ear pain, ear fullness, vertigo, or dizziness.
This joint condition is often detected during your regularly scheduled dental visits to our office. If you experience any of the symptoms in between visits you should contact our office at 914-332-4402 to schedule a neuromuscular evaluation with Dr. Wanda as soon as possible.

If you are one of the millions of Americans suffering from frequent migraine headaches, you know how debilitating they can be. To treat migraine pain, many people look to prescription medications which serve to dull the pain. However, the side effects can also interrupt your ability to work and enjoy life. What’s more, these medications can become addictive and result in internal damages, all without addressing the underlying problem.
A common cause of migraine headaches is TMJ, a disorder in the jaw joint that can produce pain throughout the face, head, and neck. If TMJ is the cause, only a neuromuscular dentist can provide you with the treatment you need for long-term relief.

Probably the most common source of jaw pain in TMJ is sore and tired muscles. With this type of jaw pain, you will likely notice your jaw pain comes and goes in relation to jaw activity. It gets worse after eating or talking, and especially if you are clenching your teeth due to stress. You may also notice your jaw hurts a lot when you wake up in the morning due to clenching your jaws at night. Other times, though, you might just experience a constant, dull ache.
Your jaw muscles typically work together in teams. When your jaw system is in alignment, these muscles help each other efficiently. If your jaw is out of balance, though, your jaw muscles won’t be helping each other—they might even be working against one another. If your jaw is enough out of balance, your muscles won’t be able to find a comfortable rest position. This means that your muscles are constantly working, even if you think your jaw is idle.
Tense muscles often spread tension to muscles they work with in the head and neck, leading to headaches and neck pain.

Whether used as a foundation for a dental crown or to support full or partial dentures, dental implants provide superior hold for full functional and aesthetic restoration.
Unlike dentures that sit on top of the gums or dental bridges that rely on adjacent teeth for support, dental implants are placed directly into your jawbone. This allows dental implants to provide benefits including:
-No risk of slipping or falling out
-No damage or reliance on adjacent teeth
-Maximum restoration of biting and chewing abilities
-Natural looking, superior aesthetics
However, the largest benefit of dental implants is that they replace your tooth’s root. This makes dental implants the only tooth replacement option that not only restores function and beauty, but prevents bone loss in the jaw, allowing implants to preserve your natural facial structure.

How can you use just four dental implants to do the work of the 14-16 teeth? There are two secrets. First, the strength of the materials. Dental implants are made of titanium, which means that individually they’re stronger than your natural tooth roots and capable of supporting more force. The bridge itself is made of some of the most advanced zirconia ceramics with a solid titanium substructure.
Second, it’s the placement of the dental implants that allows for restoration of the entire arch with just four dental implants. Years of study have shown the places where your body is most likely to retain bone, even if you lose your teeth or have gum disease. Two of the implants are placed in the front of the mouth, and two of them in the rear. These rear implants will have to bear most of the bite force, so they’re angled to give them maximum support in your bone.

One common complaint about dentures is that they make you look old. But they don’t have to. The problem is that most dentures aren’t made to accommodate for the loss of volume in your lower face that comes with tooth loss. Not only are your teeth lost, but your jawbone loses volume because it isn’t supporting teeth so the body removes what it considers to be “unnecessary” bone. When this happens, your face can shrink, and if your dentures don’t replace that lost volume, you can end up with:
-A sunken appearance
-Hanging jowls
-Deep facial folds around the mouth
-“Witch’s chin”
Our denture dentists use neuromuscular dentistry to figure out the original dimensions of your teeth and jawbone. They “read” your jaw muscles to discover the optimal vertical dimension of your face. This means they replace volume lost not just in your teeth, but your jawbone as well. This restores your face to its youthful proportions, which can dramatically reverse the apparent aging of your face.

Dr. Wanda and Dr. George received their cosmetic training at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI) . As LVI-trained dentists, they have access to the LVI smile catalog, an incredibly useful tool in the planning of your perfect smile makeover.
The LVI smile catalog includes pictures of different shapes of anterior (front) teeth. This allows us to work together closely. We can consider and hand-pick the type of smile you find most attractive. Plus, we can use the tool to provide our dental lab partners with a visual aid that ensures you always get the exact smile you desire.
We value your input and strive to provide you with the highest level of service. By taking your goals into account and combining your desires with your cosmetic dentist’s experience in aesthetic and functional dentistry, we can tailor your treatment options to tackle even the most nuanced imperfections, producing a smile you’ll be proud to show off.

Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition in which breathing stops for several seconds at inconsistent intervals while you are sleeping. With central sleep apnea, this is caused by miscommunication between your brain and your breathing muscles. This condition often requires medical devices such as CPAP machines that provide a continuous flow of oxygen while you are sleeping. Tarrytown sleep apnea dentists can assist you in treating your symptoms.
Obstructive sleep apnea is caused when your airways are blocked by overly relaxed muscles in your mouth and throat. CPAP machines are often unnecessary for the treatment of this more common form.
Treating obstructive sleep apnea may require little more than a customized orthotic device that is worn while you are sleeping. Dr. Wanda Mejia and Dr. George Sepiashvili can work with your sleep doctor to determine if this solution would be effective for you.

Snoring is caused by narrowing of your airways. When your airways are broad, air flows smoothly through them. When your airway narrows, the airflow becomes turbulent, causing your tissues to vibrate, which is what we hear as the sound of snoring. There are many reasons why your airway might narrow, including:
-Narrow nasal passage
-Large soft palate
-Sagging tongue
Large throat poorly supported by the jaw
Of these, the last two tend to be the most serious. They have the most potential to seriously restrict and even close your airway.

Teeth whitening will brighten your smile. Tooth discoloration is perhaps the most common cosmetic dental problem dealt with at our comfortable Tarrytown office. Because so many factors can combine to make teeth dingy, discolored, or stained, and a regular dental hygiene routine is often ineffective at addressing these issues, more people look to teeth whitening solutions every year.
Porcelain veneers, also known as dental veneers, offer one of the most effective solutions for addressing common cosmetic dental problems. These wafer-thin shells are custom created by our dental lab partners to cover cosmetic imperfections and produce a seamlessly beautiful appearance to teeth that are:
-Unevenly spaced or crooked
-Irregularly shaped or sized
-Chipped or cracked
-Discolored underneath the enamel

The health of your teeth and gums relies on more than a good dental hygiene routine. In fact, the entire branch of general dentistry is focused on preventing, detecting, and treating oral health issues, helping ensure your teeth remain strong for a lifetime.
However, general dentistry is about more than just the health of your mouth. Several studies have found that infections in the teeth and gums can heighten your risk for certain heart conditions as well as complicate preexisting medical conditions such as diabetes.

Many of our patients find Invisalign preferable to traditional braces for aesthetic reasons. However, the invisibility of these aligners is far from their only benefit. Because they can be removed, the trays offer many benefits including:
-Removable for special occasions
-No dietary restrictions
-No interference with dental hygiene
In addition, soft plastic aligners are much more comfortable than hard metal braces and will not cut or irritate sensitive oral tissue. Many people also find switching aligners to further treatment less invasive than the manual adjustments required for wire and bracket braces. However, most people experience slight discomfort with Invisalign. It’s usually worse when you first switch aligners. Typically, you can control discomfort with over-the-counter pain medicine.

Anxiety about visiting the dentist keeps many people from getting regular dental care. Sometimes it even drives people to avoid treating tooth pain until they can no longer stand it. Waiting causes severe damage to occur, including gum disease, bone damage, and tooth loss. Your dental visits don’t have to strike fear in your heart, sedation dentistry can make your dental visit a calming experience.
If you experience high levels of anxiety, or have other conditions that make visiting the dentist an ordeal, you might benefit from sedation dentistry. This calming procedure allows you to relax during your visit so that you can get the dental care you need. We also offer NuCalm relaxation dentistry to patients who commonly feel dental anxiety.

Family dentistry can be better for your oral health. The family that eats together stays together, but it also develops cavities together. When we treat your whole family, we can see how this affects you. That lets us make recommendations about diet changes or other lifestyle changes that can benefit everyone’s oral health.
We can also look out for genetic risks in your family. Gum disease relates to how your body responds to oral bacteria. This is partly controlled by your genes. So if parents have gum disease, we know to watch for it in children. The same is true for bite problems like TMJ.

We offer two types of tooth colored fillings. One is made from a composite resin and the other is made from advanced ceramics similar to all ceramic dental crowns or porcelain veneers. This type is called dental inlays and onlays. This allows Dr. Mejia to preserve much more of your natural tooth structure. Temperature fluctuations in your mouth don’t affect the white fillings material. This allows tooth colored fillings to provide consistent protection with no risk of falling out.
They can also protect your teeth from breaking. Dental inlays and onlays are more reliable and stronger than their metal alternatives. Composite resin fillings preserve more of your natural tooth structure, are much better for the health of your smile. Due to the aesthetic and functional superiority of white fillings, they are the only option our dentists offer. If you have metal fillings you would like to have replaced with this superior option, Dr. Mejia can discuss your options with you during your initial consultation.

Missing teeth are unsightly, but they also have a significant impact on the health of your other teeth. When you are missing teeth, the strength of your bite is diminished. In addition, teeth adjacent to those missing will eventually begin to slip into the empty space. This movement can further alter the strength and tension of your bite, and can also result in additional tooth loss.
By placing a dental bridge, Dr. Wanda or Dr. George can restore strength and beauty to your smile. Dental bridges are effective at restoring bite strength, preventing tooth slippage, and helping ensure continued function for a number of years. They’re also a great way to restore adjacent teeth that have been damaged or decayed.

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that can be placed over existing teeth or used in conjunction with a dental bridge or implant to replace a missing tooth. In addition, Dr. Wanda Mejia and Dr. George Sepiashvili commonly use dental crowns to:
-Strengthen a tooth weakened by decay
-Protect a tooth with a large dental filling
-Preserve a tooth that has been broken, chipped, or worn down
-Guard against damage following a root canal
-Support the bite as part of TMJ treatment
The role dental crowns play in strengthening and protecting your smile will be dependent on your unique dental issues. Our cosmetic dentists can discuss this with you in more detail during your initial consultation.

-Swelling of the gums
Formation of an abscess (like a pimple on your gums)

Since its recent introduction, laser dentistry has grown dramatically in popularity. That’s because it offers many benefits, including:
-Precise targeting–doesn’t harm surrounding tissue
-Minimally invasive
-Less discomfort–you may not need anesthesia
-Stitches may not be required
-Less risk of infection
-Less bleeding
-Faster healing
A laser allows us to precisely target the area to be treated–and they don’t harm the tissues around the treated area. This allows us to perform minimally invasive procedures that accomplish results with less discomfort. Some people may even find they don’t need anesthesia for their procedure.

Gum disease is when bacteria living in your mouth begin to infect your gums. In its earliest form, gingivitis, gum disease may be spotted by gums that bleed easily or become red and swollen. As soon as these symptoms appear, it is important that you contact a dentist to schedule an examination. Left untreated, gingivitis can progress into periodontitis, a much more serious condition.
Periodontitis is the advanced form of gum disease. Symptoms of periodontitis may include:
-Gum recession
-Gums pulling away from teeth
-Pus between teeth
-Loose or shifting teeth
-Chronic bad breath
With periodontitis, infection below the gum line can begin to spread into the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place. Not only can this result in tooth loss, the infection can spread throughout the body and increase your risk for heart attack, stroke, and a number of other medical issues. To prevent these issues it is vital that you contact Dr. Wanda or Dr. George for periodontal treatment as soon as possible.

The goal of reconstructive dentistry is usually to make your smile as close as possible to the way it was before it was damaged. There are many potential causes of smile damage:
-Dental decay
-Dental erosion
-Bad bite
-Traumatic accident
Each comes with its own pattern of damage which requires a special approach to fix. But these types of damage are fixable, and it’s vital that they are fixed.
Damage to your smile is more than just a physical harm. It can be emotionally damaging, especially if you’ve lost one or more teeth. Your smile is a vital part of your self-image, as well as a vital part of how others see you. Restoring it can help you achieve a full physical and emotional recovery.

Functional orthodontics offers many benefits above and beyond straight teeth. With functional orthodontics, we can achieve:
-Balance between the upper and lower jaws
-Improved facial appearance
-A healthy bite
-An open airway
-Results without surgery or tooth extraction
One of the key problems facing children as they grow is that their jaws aren’t developing in balance. One jaw is typically developing more than the other. With functional orthodontics, we can expand the jaw with deficient development to match the more developed jaw. This improves the appearance of a weak chin, receding chin, or jutting chin.

Like the many other reviews on this site this place is a scam. The good reviews are obviously fake as my personal experience aligns with the one star reviews. I got a second opinion and this doctor is a complete hack. Mostly everything he said was a lie. Basically their strategy is to try to scare you into paying enormous amounts of money for unnecessary work by making you think you're teeth will fall out if you had gone to any other dentist.
Only the great doctor at this fraud of an office can do the work, at a 5 figure cost. I'm so upset I have contacted the attorney general and the nys health department. How could two doctors tell me completely different things? Then I read the many reviews who were also told their teeth would fall out if they did not do the work here. Beware of this office.
They say free consultation and they say you must pay for this this and this in advance but you end up being charged $400 percent for what was supposed to be a free consultation. It's no wonder he requires money upfront because when you rip people off they usually don't want to pay you. Wish I hadn't paid cash or id be disputing the charge. RUN AWAY FROM THIS DENTAL PRAXTICE

This office was recommended to me by a friend as I was dealing with an abundance of issues since having braces as a teen. I was at a loss of what to do and was sure I was gonna lose all of my teeth that were affected, but thankfully to Dr George and all of the staff they were able to come up with a plan to save all my teeth quickly. Dr George does everything he can to make you as comfortable as possible during the whole process, Kathy, the one who handles all appointments and sets things up, really tries to answer every single question as thoroughly as possible for your understanding, the hygienist Sarah is extremely helpful when it comes to teaching you how to properly take care of your teeth and is so sweet.
All of the staff, doctors, front desk-have answered my calls and questions at all hours of the day which I cannot thank them enough for. They really take care of you and treat you like family here. It's a little bit of a drive but I will always make the drive from here on out! :

I was going to come on and give a good review here and now that I read the others I'm glad I did. These doctors have treated me like family from DAY ONE. Everyone in the practice is extremely professional and friendly, the place is spotless. When I came in for my initial consultation I had been truly traumatized from my past experiences with dentists and my teeth were in what I believed to be disrepair. Dr. George and Dr. Mejia were so good at coming up with a plan that worked with my limited budget and kept every promise they made me.
They have been extremely generous and I never would have been able to trust someone enough to work on my teeth or afford it if it weren't for their help. These are genuinely great people and Sarah is the best she is so good and understanding with my anxiety. In fact I i eve had a full blown panic attack while having a procedure and Dr. Mejia help me like I was her own child. I will never be able to express to everyone there how grateful I am for LITERALLY CHANGING MY LIFE

If I could I would give 0 stars based on my experience. This was a while back about a year and a half ago I had a traumatic event I saw a chiropractor that did a very intense torque release adjustment when I had a bad neck to begin with. I also had a click in my jaw since I was 17 for about 10 years with no associated pain during those 10 years the click was just annoying.
So after that chiropractic adjustment I started to have severe facial pain burning excruciating migraine felt like I was gonna die. I went to advanced dentistry and Nicky did a presentation on tmj and what not and I was so desperate with my pain thinking it was all associated with tmj I rushed into getting an orthodic because they said my bite was off.
They said it was 7,500 I was in such I excruciating pain I didn't think about the money. But I really didn't have it at the time. Anyways 3 weeks passed for them to receive it. In that 3 week time my pain went away and the merge pain. I was on steroids medrol pack which took it away, which Dr. Mejia tried to convince me not to take, which would take away the pain not really sure why she didn't want me to take it.
So anyways I was like ok my bite it off let me just continue with this orthodic since I already payed for it. When they put on the orthodic the nerve pain started again tingling burning in the cheeks behind the neck and when I would call they would get mad and say that I'm calling to much. I would call to ask what would help with the excruciating migraine, they would get mad.
I would go into to the office and Dr. Mejia would have the nerve to say don't call the office that I'm calling too much. I ended up taking out the orthodic and working with the neurologist and taking nerve medications and physical therapy which cured my symptoms migraines headaches nerve pain everything. I had a paper in writing saying that if I didn't go through treatment she would give me back 2,500 for orthodic.
I told her I'm not going through treatment I wanted the money back she basically said I took to long to decide, it was like a month that she wasn't gonna give the money back to me. I had to fight to get 1,000 back. She basically stole 1,500 from me. I still have the signed paper might take it to a lawyer to get that money back. Also Dr. Mejia stated in beginning of treatment there will be no permanent change with orthodic everything is reversible.
After 1 week I had orthodic in I went to the office and she goes oh btw if you end up not doing treatment and taking out the orthodic you'll be worse then when you started. I told Nicky want Dr. Mejia said and she was like really that sounds strange because that's not true I never heard her say that before. Basically I was a young 26 year old she was trying to manipulate and take advantage of.
Also i wanted to get braces next and she was like no your going to need veneers for phase 2 which she charges 30,000 -60,0000 dollars! When I'm reality no one would charge that much! Oh and 20,0000 for braces! Pretty insane. They see you and see money signs they don't care about you there. Anyways just wanted everyone to know so you stay far away from this place other places charge about 1,000 for orthodics and 5,000 for braces and instead of veners go to a prostodontist and do equalibtation for tmj for 500 not 60,000 dollars and covered by your insurance.
Not 30-60k that your going to be paying off for the rest of your life struggling, of course if your wealthy it's no big deal for you. Dr. Mejia was so rude and stole 1,500 of mine. They only good thing I can say about that place is Nicky she was so sweet and helpful. But Dr. Mejia horrible bedside manner and very hungry for money.

My husband had gone to advanced dentistry for a few years and was very happy with the services received. He hadn't gone in about 18 months and scheduled an appointment for a cleaning and dental checkup. After a consult, he was told our insurance is no longer accepted and was handed non itemized bill of $400 plus tax. Obviously upset, he asked for a breakdown of charges and was told "oh we don't do that".
He put the charges on a credit card and signed for approximately $425. After a few days, he checked his credit card statement and found he had been charged over $490! For a consult? I'm outraged that we weren't told at the time the appointment was made that our insurance is no longer being accepted and for not being given any explanation of what he was charged for. And then why did it go up? Stay away from this place! We are livid!

Advanced Dentistry has really changed my life for the better. For years I've suffered with TMJ. Migraines, jaw pain, neck, and back pain caused me to take pain meds on a regular basis. I went to other dentists and doctors that really didn't offer a solution - just more pain management. After seeing a neurologist who wanted to put me on blood pressure medicine and Botox injections, I found Advanced Dentistry. Yes, it was expensive, and yes, it was a more aggressive treatment than i had tried in the past, but it WORKED. Dr. Mejia, Dr. George, and the staff were with me every step of the way.
They went above and beyond to make sure I was getting the treatment that I needed. I'm so grateful not to be on medication for the rest of my life that only masked the problem. It was 100% worth it and I would recommend them to anyone!

George, I don't know how else to explain this to you. Nobody--i mean nobody!-- is gonna trust you when you overcharge, have an empty waiting room. refuse to provide samples of your work, demand full payment in advance and have all these reviews with the word "scammers" in them. Really, George. you overcharge because you went to all that school? Sorry, it's just not how things work.

This is my favorite dentistry, it's like going to a salon or taking a day off to pamper yourself rather then visiting a dentist (something most of us see in a bad dream). During my first visit I was surprised how fast and professional all my concerns were addressed and a treatment plan was created. Dr. Mejia not only treated all of my cavities in just a couple of visits but also reminded me to schedule a check up after 6 months passed - something I don't have to remember now! Perfect for me and my family, highly recommend!

Today was my 3rd visit to Advance Dentistry. The staff is second to none. I’m the biggest baby when it comes to dentist procedures. I’m currently getting fitted for implants. Today I was asked if Dr. George during the surgery wanted to give me a little laughing gas was that okay with me. My honest answer was I put my trust in him and I’m confident in his judgement.
Today Dr Wanda and her staff worked on my gum impressions and it couldn’t have been a better experience. Watching Dr Wanda work today showed me that I made the right choice in choosing this office to have my implants done.

In a word -- SCAMMERS. 0. Most of the positive reviews on Google are fake. Yelp is a bit more realistic 1. They did not inform my daughter that they were out-of-network and give her an accurate accounting of costs before prodecure, saying it was difficult to know what insurance would cover. That is total BS. The insurance company can tell them exactly what would be covered. 2.
They WAY overcharge for services. They took advantage of my daughter's very painful condition to put on the high pressure to rush an expensive treatment for double what other dentists would have charged. 3. Horrible billing and bookkeeping. 4. Last but not least they wanted to crown 16, yes SIXTEEN, of my daughters teeth to "fix" her TMJ. Over $30,000 not to mention the unnecessary mutilation of my daughter's teeth.
She sought a second opinion and the doctor brought tremendous relief to her through less aggressive treatments. 5. These "professionals" should be ashamed of themselves. The New York State Attorney General should be starting an investigation regarding their business practices shortly.

I've worked in healthcare for 17 years, and this place is top notch! The staff is professional, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Dr. Mejia is personable. My experiences with Nikki and Victoria were terrific, I felt they were down-to-earth and did a very thorough job of explaining treatment options that would work for my schedule, finances, and commitment level as a patient.
Bad oral health can lead to so many other (worse!) health problems, so to me, it's worth the money to take preventative measures. Yes, they are pricey, but you get what you pay for! Unfortunately, insurance coverage stinks these days, so it makes sense to me why their charges are as they are. They didn't become trained medical professionals to charge haircut prices!
They take their time and provide an individual treatment plan for you. There was little-to-no wait in the waiting room (complete with coffee bar and beverage selection), clean exam rooms, and impressive modern technology. I'd also like to add that Molly and Skye at the front desk were great too, it's nice when office admin staff are happy to help you rather than treat you like you are "bothering them".
Great office overall. My husband went here also and had the same experience. My only regret is that he was the one who found them, and now I have to admit that HE was the one who found us an awesome dentist! Haha!

What a terrible place. The dr was rude. The nurse kept saying they were "thorough" and it turned out that they were just way over the top. I went for a cleaning and the woman tried to convince me I needed to come back 4-6 times for all these treatments with lasers and admitted the same thing could be done by a normal dentist in one visit. They refused to tell me how many cavities I had and kept insisting I just come back for another appointment. They didn't even finish the cleaning or TJM evaluation but billed me for both anyway! Completely ridiculous.

Hands down the best dental experience EVER! Professional, caring, informative are just a few words to describe my experience with the staff here. The dental hygienist Nikki was the best and a breath of fresh air in an industry that can sometimes be intimidating. I look forward to a long and happy relationship with Dr Mejia and the rest of the staff! See y'all soon!

As I near the end of my treatment for tooth replacement ( front tooth ),I know I made the right decision in selecting Advance Dentistry for this procedure. Nine months ago, I entered their office with my hands shaking because I was so scared. I hadn't been to a dentist in eight years because of a bad experience with that dentist. So walking through that door I had only one thought - my daughters November wedding.
And wanting to have a great smile for the event. They eliminated my anxiety and have made every visit friendly and comfortable. So if you have questions and concerns , make Advance Dentistry your first stop, chances are it will be your last.

This dentist office is full of extremely friendly and personable staff who explain your different options to you with an emphasis on what YOU want in terms of an end goal. Truly a fantastic and incredibly QUALIFIED team to work with. They also do most things in house, so you'll likely not need a referral to get additional work done.

Advanced Dentistry has a powerful almost holistic approach where the patient works with them to improve the state of dental health. This for me has been satisfying. The team is highly experienced and competent employing advanced tools and techniques. Communication is detailed from Day 1. The doctor and support team are fantastic as my comprehensive plan is in progress and exceeding my expectations. This is a unique practice and I recommend them highly!!!
