What is a smile makeover? This process fuses cosmetic dentistry and restorative dentistry procedures to improve oral health and aesthetics. Dr. White makes use of advanced medical and dental technology to address each individual’s smile challenges without performing unnecessarily invasive procedures.
First, Dr. White will listen to your goals, including both your cosmetic and your health goals. He will review your medical history, looking at your forms and asking questions to fill in important details. Then Dr. White will work with you to design a custom smile makeover plan that might include:
- Dental implants: the most natural-looking method of restoring missing teeth, and most people are good candidates for the procedure.
- Porcelain Crowns or Bridges: Porcelain crowns give your teeth an entirely new visible surface, restore strength, and can support a dental bridge, which replaces a missing tooth.
- Porcelain veneers: Veneers can reshape teeth that are uneven, chipped, or out of proportion. Veneers can cover stained teeth and are are also a great way to treat small gaps between teeth.
- Orthodontics can fix bite problems and crooked teeth.
Teeth Whitening can keep your smile bright and looking youthful.

If your facial appearance has been impacted by tooth wear, restoring your teeth to their youthful proportions with a smile makeover will dramatically turn back the clock. Balance will be restored between your soft tissue and the hard tissues that support them.
Cheek fat pads that used to hang below your jaw as jowls will be cheeks again. And they’ll be supported better by your teeth so they won’t look sunken anymore. Lips will also be better supported, so they’ll be more voluptuous and you’ll see fewer wrinkles around them. Your jawline will be well defined again, and you’ll have less hanging skin under your chin as it grows more taut around your restored facial proportions.
Since losing your teeth has the most impact on your facial appearance, dentures like FOY ® Dentures can have the most dramatic rejuvenating effect.

In this dental restoration treatment, bonding material is used to create a tight, durable seal at the molecular level. As part of the bonding process, an acrylic composite, which begins as a thick but shapeable paste, is layered onto the tooth enamel. This composite is then sculpted and shaped. Once Dr. White achieves the desired shape, the composite is hardened using a curing light. In situations where a thick application of dental bonding is needed, Dr. White will apply it in several layers to ensure it cures properly.
One of the benefits of dental bonding is that it may be the least invasive solution to your smile challenges because it can be applied directly to your teeth after nothing more than a slight roughing of the surface. It is also very convenient because the treatment can be done in a single office visit. Finally, many people like the low cost of dental bonding compared to other cosmetic treatments.
Dental bonding can be an effective solution for:
-Worn down or misshapen teeth
-Chipped or crooked teeth
-Cracked or broken teeth
-Discolored teeth enamel
-Gaps between teeth
-Uneven teeth

Although you probably think of your teeth when you think of what makes your smile attractive, your gums have an important part to play, too. Your gums should:
Balance your teeth to create proper smile proportion
Create a line that mirrors the cusps of your teeth
Be a healthy color and shape–not swollen
Fill in the area around the bases of your teeth without leaving “black triangles”
Gum contouring primarily addresses the top two cosmetic goals. The second two are related to gum disease and receding gums, something we hope to counter with preventive dentistry.
Many people are unhappy with what is described as a “gummy smile, ” when they show too much gum tissue compared to the amount of tooth they show. If this is how you feel, we will evaluate your smile to determine whether you really do have excess gum tissue. If so, then we will remove some to establish the proportions you desire. If you just have naturally short teeth, we might recommend an alternative like porcelain veneers to build up your teeth to create the proper proportions.
A similar analysis governs how we approach an uneven gumline. If your gumline is uneven, it can make your teeth appear crooked, even if they are actually straight. When we look at the line of your gums, we can determine if you will benefit from gum recontouring or if porcelain veneers, orthodontics, or another procedure might get you teh results you desire.

If your smile has lost its luster, the time is now to consider a teeth whitening procedure with Dr. White at Nashville’s Center for Advanced Dentistry. Some of the benefits of teeth whitening treatment include:
It is quick and non-invasive.
It counters staining from foods, medications, tobacco and more.
Results are long-lasting or can be renewed.
However, whitening does have its limits. Your teeth can only become as white as your natural enamel allows. Teeth that are discolored because of defects in the enamel and dentin will not respond to whitening. Before we perform teeth whitening, we will evaluate your teeth to see if they will whiten. If not, we will recommend porcelain veneers, which can whiten any teeth, no matter the cause of their discoloration.

BOTOX ® Cosmetic is the world’s most popular cosmetic procedure because it is a safe, powerful, and subtle treatment for many common signs of aging. BOTOX® treatments can be especially helpful if you are unhappy with:
-Crow’s Feet
-Laugh Lines
-Frown Lines
-Brow Wrinkles
-Nasolabial Folds
BOTOX ® Cosmetic works by relaxing muscles that have become habitually contracted after years of laughs, smiles, frowns, and scowls (hopefully more the former than the latter!)

The first step in the dental implant placement or replacement process is for Dr. White to conduct a thorough dental and medical evaluation that will likely include X-rays. “I don’t want to miss any pathology, ” Dr. White says.
This neuromuscular evaluation is also an opportunity for Dr. White to talk with his dental implant patients about exactly what they can expect from the procedure.
The reason that dental implants are so effective at mirroring the look and function of real teeth is that an implant is actually two pieces of equipment. The first essential part is the artificial root that is placed directly in the jawbone. This is the actual dental implant. Once the implant has sufficiently healed, it will be affixed with a crown, bridge, or denture.
The main benefit of dental implants is that this technique boasts unparalleled precision, predictability and functionality. It is now common for dental implant patients to go many years, even decades, before needing adjustment or replacement.

Dr. White takes a different view on restorative dentistry than some of his peers. He believes that the neuromuscular approach to dentistry capitalizes on state-of-the-art technology to devise long-term solutions. A dentist with neuromuscular training can use advanced diagnostics to determine a proper resting jaw position to promote oral, facial and muscular harmony. Only the neuromuscular approach to dentistry takes this complete perspective into account.
Your teeth are only one part of a complex, interrelated system that also includes bones, muscles, and nerves. Neuromuscular dentistry looks at the interaction between all these elements to design restorations that do not just repair damage, but also restore function. Dental restorations that are not designed to fit properly into your bite can cause:
-Difficulty chewing
-Jaw pain
-Headaches
-Wear on opposing teeth
-Failure of opposing teeth
-Failure of restoration
To counter these risks, Dr. White will properly measure your bite to determine if it’s healthy. If it is, the new restoration will be fitted ideally to your bite, encouraging ongoing jaw health.

Often a last option for saving a natural tooth and root, porcelain crowns are the epitome of aesthetic and restorative excellence and quality. We believe that we can craft them with an artistic sense, and place them with extraordinary precision.
A dental crown is a case or sheath that fits snugly over your natural tooth, giving it an entirely new surface. Porcelain crowns may be necessary when:
-Decay or old restorations have weakened a tooth
-A tooth has been seriously cracked
-A tooth requires a root canal
A worn down tooth is contributing to bite problems and needs to be built up
Cosmetic restoration requires more strength than veneers provide
What all these cases have in common is the need for both strengthening and protection for your tooth, which is what dental crowns provide.

Our Nashville dentist knows the way teeth can take a beating. Four things that tend to take a toll on your teeth include:
-Decay
-Wear
-Disease
-Older metal fillings
Inlays and onlays are a type of porcelain filling that is custom-crafted for your tooth. With the tight bond, these fillings prevent the infiltration of food as well as bacteria that causes decay.
Inlays refer to smaller fillings that normally sit entirely inside the top of the tooth. An onlay is a filling that extends over one or more of the edges or points in your teeth (called cusps) .

There are specific situations in which we support this type of therapy. Here are six specific reasons that a patient might need a root canal:
Root Canal Reason No. 1: There is an obvious infection at the root tips. (Gum ligament space is widening and broken.)
Root Canal Reason No. 2: Dental abscess, or serious gum infection.
Root Canal Reason No. 3: Symptoms include swelling, fever or discomfort.
Root Canal Reason No. 4: Decay has come close to the pulp chamber.
Root Canal Reason No. 5: Nerve or tooth pulp is dead. (The patient will experience a chronic, dull toothache.)
Root Canal Reason No. 6: There is not enough tooth structure remaining for restorative care.
After your root canal is completed, Dr. White will place a dental crown to protect and support your remaining tooth structure.

Although a complete smile makeover is one solution, our Nashville dentist always opts for a conservative treatment strategy whenever possible. Our Nashville dentist might choose to fit a patient with a custom orthotic appliance designed to correct teeth and jaw posture. By holding your jaw in a better resting position, the orthotic helps your muscles relax, reduces pressure on your jaw joints, nerves, and other structures. This can reduce or eliminate TMJ symptoms over time. You might begin by wearing your orthotic all day, then switch to wearing it only at night.
If you like the results of the orthotic, but don’t like wearing the orthotic, we can talk about using restorations to establish a permanently healthy bite.

Home care isn’t suitable for all cases of jaw pain. So how do you know when you should talk to a doctor or neuromuscular dentist? Seek professional help if jaw pain:
-Is not controlled adequately by over-the-counter medications
-Prevents you from sleeping or functioning normally
-Lasts seven days or more
-Recurs more than twice
-Gets worse under home care
-Is accompanied by other TMJ symptoms
All of these signs mean that your jaw pain is potentially related to TMJ and may not get better without professional care.

TMJ is associated with two of the most common types of headaches, as well as some more unusual kinds. Just because your doctor has given you a diagnosis doesn’t mean that TMJ might not be involved. Here are some of the types of associated with TMJ:

Sleep apnea is a chronic condition in which frequent breathing disruption prevents restful sleep. It is generally characterized as being central (CSA) , obstructive (OSA) , or a combination of the two. Obstructive sleep apnea is, by far, the most common type, with only about 2% of sufferers having only central sleep apnea.
The National Institute of Health reports that roughly 12 million Americans suffer from this disorder. But that number may be much higher in reality because many sleep apnea sufferers fail to realize they have the condition. As much as 80% of sleep apnea sufferers may be undiagnosed.
The traditional symptoms of sleep apnea include:
-Chronic, loud snoring
-Chronic fatigue
-Trouble concentrating
-Short-term memory loss
-Moodiness
-Weight control problems
-High blood pressure
-Insomnia

Many people consider snoring a joke. The noisy nuisance plays for laughs on TV and in movies. But snoring is actually a serious health risk.
It is one of the most common warnings of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a potentially deadly condition in which your breathing stops while you sleep. It has been associated with serious heart risks like high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. It may lead to metabolic, mental, and mood disorders. If you snore, you should get tested for sleep apnea, and if you have sleep apnea you need an effective, comfortable treatment.
It is also independently associated with hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) . The vibrations from snoring cause tiny injuries in the arteries, especially the carotid arteries, starting the process of scarification and hardening. This could increase your stroke risk.
It is also a sign that your body isn’t getting enough oxygen. It is associated with poor sleep and low energy, independent of sleep apnea.
And we should not neglect the personal strife that snoring can cause. It is a leading cause of divorce and domestic violence.

Three signs of gingivitis that can lead to devastating periodontitis include:
-Red, swollen gums
-Bleeding gums
-Chronic bad breath
At its most severe, periodontitis will cause the gums to pull away from the teeth and supporting tissue.
Lifestyle choices and genetics also can severely impact a patient’s chances of developing periodontitis. Some of the risk factors behind gum disease include:
-Smoking
-Lack of adequate housing or home care
-Lack of nutrition

Most people experience some level of anxiety at the dentist. This is normal, but unpleasant. And then there are people who find it hard to make their dental appointments because of their level of fear. This can seriously damage a person’s oral health. In the past, we’ve responded with sedation dentistry, which is effective, but not everyone wants to use drugs to calm down at the dentist. NuCalm is an exciting, scientific approach to relaxation that works without drugs and is appropriate even for people who have minor dental anxiety and wouldn’t want to use sedation. NuCalm works for about 95% of people who have tried it.

Invisalign is a great option for orthodontic treatment if you want to straighten your teeth without metal braces. Instead, it uses clear plastic aligners to move your teeth into place. These aligners are not just nearly invisible, they are removable, so you can continue to eat all your favorite foods and will not have to learn to clean around brackets and wires.
Any time you get orthodontics, you are altering the way the teeth fit together (occlusion) , which can have major consequences to your bite. That is why it is important to work with a neuromuscular dentist for orthodontics, like Nashville’s Dr. Kent White. Dr. White will make sure that your orthodontics maintain or promote the healthy function of your jaw system.

Six Month Smiles is a remarkable new approach to orthodontics. It is rapidly becoming a widespread and in-demand approach, because it:
-Has a shorter treatment time
-Has shorter appointments
-Has a subtle appearance
-Gives consistent, predictable results
-Can be better for your oral health
-Can be significantly less expensive than other approaches
Although Six Month Smiles uses brackets and wires for your orthodontic procedure, these are less visible than traditional orthodontic gear. The wire is white, and the brackets are clear, making them very hard to detect, especially when they are kept clean.

The new owner of Center For Advanced Dentistry, Dr. Mckinnon Forbes has done several procedures on me when was practicing in North Carolina and I must say that Dr. Forbes has greatly exceeded my expectations. I still travel to Nashville to his new office to see him. After having dental procedures by a variety of dentists in the past, I found Dr. Forbes to be extremely knowledgeable, gentle and explained my options in a manner that was understandable while not being pushy. Dr. Forbes has a great demeanor and chairside manner and I am exceedingly happy with the results of his work.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Dr. white changed my husband's life, from a childhood tmj disorder, and went thru a list of dentists this year until July 2019, Dr white is the only dr. who took time in listening to our needs, we came for one thing, to get the tmj get resolved but dr. white made sure he gave my husband a holistic peace of mind, ever since dr. white I have not heard any complaints, my husband doesn't night grind if he does I can't hear it, he always had teeth issues, my husband has perfect smiles now, it changed my husband's outlook in life, he is more out going and sociable, it's like a new husband . Dr White is my HERO! if anyone has questions about this feel free to comment on this review.

Dr. White is an amazing dentist, and he has a dedicated and skilled team working with him. Having full mouth restoration, I have only good things to say. Dr. White is extremely skilled and genuinely cares for his patients. He listens and hears what his patients say all while applying his professional and knowledgeable expertise. He explains what he does, before and during the procedure. Dr. White and his staff are cutting edge always continuing their education in order to provide the best for their patients and the dental profession.

The entire staff has been phenomenal in assisting me with a treatment plan. The level of advanced dentistry is truly amazing. Every staff member has true talent and skill. Dr. White teaches you about what you need and what he is doing. They leave no stone unturned. Each team member has found their true purpose and calling and I'm so thankful I was introduced to this FABULOUS team. My husband was my driver and he was equally as impressed with the entire team keeping him involved to know what is happening. Such a BLESSING!

One of the best experiences I've had with any business let alone a dentist. From start to finish the practice is professional, courteous, kind, and informative. Dr. White and his staff are terrific at explaining the procedure while keeping you comfortable. I had some extensive work done so I was a bit nervous going into the appointment. WIthin minutes I felt very at ease.
I had all my questions answered thoroughly in a way I could understand. Dr. White's knowledge is unprecedented and you really understand what true dentistry is.
Dr. White's expertise and focus is providing treatment plans that correct your problem instead of just covering it up. He has keen understanding of the neuromuscular system which I've realized is HUGE when dealing with your teeth.
You can really tell why this is called the Center for Advanced Dentistry. I truly can't put into words how impressed and satisfied I am with my choice of Dr. White. A family owned business that truly puts their patients first! Please consider this practice for any general dentistry, but especially if you have a history of dental problems. If you want someone that will be honest, give Dr.
White the opportunity to provide you with the facts and let you make the decision without being aggressive or pushy. Again, Dr. White and his staff had the ability to change my life! They use the best labs in the country and still provide extremely affordable treatment plans. They use state of the art imaging and don't cut any corners. Thanks Dr. White and Staff for the outstanding service and professionalism you provide.

First, I want to say that aside from brushing and flossing my teeth, I had not been to a dentist in quite a while. I was referred to Dr. White by a family member and was a new patient. From the moment that I walked into the office, I was pleasantly greeted with smiling faces from Melissa and Gretchen. Also Paige, the hygienist came up front and greeted me as well.
They were very genuine and kind. The office atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing. After a brief wait, it was my turn. Dr. White came in to introduce himself and talk with me. He was very knowledgeable and humble, with a very good sense of humor. After x-rays, pictures and a consultation with both Paige and Dr. White, Paige began her work on me. I can say that I have never had as good of a teeth cleaning. Paige was very thorough. Everything, from the moment that I walked in, until I left, went very smoothly.
I had an extremely excellent experience. I am looking forward to my next appointment. Thank you so much Melissa, Paige, Gretchen and Dr. White! I have found my new dental practice. Dr. Kent White and his staff at The Center for Advanced Dentistry.

I was very fortunate to have good dental care as a child and into my adult years. As someone who is very interested in their health, I recognize that it all starts with one's dental health. The mouth is not only a reflection of one's health status, it is also an origin. With that foundation of understanding, I can without equivocation state that Dr.
White and his team share this understanding and philosophy. If that were not enough, they also have skills and knowledge that are second to none in advanced dentistry. I have had several procedures done by Dr. White, and his staff. Each time I am amazed and impressed by their quality of work. Never one to rest on their laurels, Dr. White and his staff are constantly working to improve themselves personally and professionally.
I have nothing but praise for their practice. If you want a team of professionals who are as interested in your oral health as you are, then give them a try. You will be happy you did.

What a great practice! I inherited Dr. White when my dentist retired. I had no idea the wonderful journey we were about to begin. From the staff to the technology to Dr. White's knowledge - it's not your average "visit every 6 month" experience by any means. They truly want you to have the best and healthiest mouth you possibly can. I'd recommend him to anyone.

I have been amazed at the excellent service from the office of Dr. Kent White. The service is excellent from public relations, appointments, dental hygienic cleanings and especially Dr. White's "Advanced Knowledge" of how to have and keep a healthy mouth. His dentistry knowledge and compassion surpasses all past dental experiences. I have never had an issue that is negative with anyone at this office. I applaud the hard work, kindness and the understanding of everyone at The Center F or Advanced Dentisry. Sincerely and with Gratitude, Christy A. Mitchell

The Center for Advanced Dentistry and Dr. Kent White have forever changed the way I see dentistry. No more fear of going to the dentist, no more pain, no more wondering about the truth of the recommendations from my dentist... The team at CAD has a plan for my dental health always. My smile has never looked better and I'm so grateful for Dr. White and the Center for Advanced Dentistry!!

I went so unsure of what to expect Cannot tell you what a wonderful experience it has been beginning with the receptionist to Dawn and Dr. White. So professional and caring. Been going for a month and I’m so excited with the work so far. A great group. I highly recommend. Have a new smile and confidence that I haven’t had in years.

Every day, throughout the whole day, I am constantly reminded of the best work Dr. White provides. I was so self-conscience about my smile. I did not even want to smile when I knew no one would see it. How I feel today about my smile is the difference between night and day. How I feel about Dr. White and his office? I feel like having my smile worked on changed my whole life. Still amazed.
