What you eat and how often you eat can affect your teeth. Americans are consuming foods and drinks high in sugar and starches more often and in larger portions than ever before. It is clear that "junk" foods and drinks gradually have replaced nutritious beverages and foods for many people. Alarmingly, a steady diet of sugary foods and drinks can ruin teeth, especially among those who snack throughout the day.
Your gum tissue is not attached to the teeth as high as it may seem -- there is a very shallow v-shaped crevice called a sulcus between the tooth and gums. Peridontal diseases attack just below the gum line in the sulcus, where they cause the attachment of the tooth and its supporting tissues to break down.
What are Dental Sealants? A dental sealant is a protective, plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of the molars. It is worked into the tiny grooves where cavity-causing bacteria live. Toothbrush bristles are too large to reach into the grooves, making sealant application one of the most important preventative treatments available.
When you look in the mirror, do you see a bright, attractive smile or teeth that are dingy and yellow? If your teeth are discolored, tooth whitening may help. No two smiles are alike. Although we generally think of teeth as being white, there are many natural shades of tooth enamel that range from bright white and bluish-gray to yellow.
