The goal of our Campaign for Mercury-Free Dentistry is to phase out the use of amalgam, a 50% mercury product -- worldwide. The recently concluded draft mercury treaty requires each signing nation to phase down its use of amalgam, and it provides a road map how. Educate consumers about the use of mercury in dentistry so they can make informed decisions.

Protect consumers - especially vulnerable populations such as children and the unborn - from exposure to dental mercury. Empower dental workers - dental assistants and hygienists - to protect themselves from mercury in the workplace.

Dental amalgam is a tooth filling material that is approximately 50% mercury. It is sometimes misleadingly called a "silver filling", even though it contains far more mercury than silver. Mercury, a heavy metal, is known to be poisonous to the human nervous system. There are still dentists out there who use this toxic mercury product, so make sure to say "No amalgam!" before you ever sit in that dental chair. Ask for mercury-free fillings instead!
Consumers for Dental Choice is grateful to the courageous community of mercury-free dentists, healthcare and service providers, and product manufacturers for their generous support of our mission and goals. Their help is vital to our success in improving the quality of life by making dentistry mercury-free.
Choose mercury-free fillings: Always choose mercury-free fillings for yourself and your children. Make sure to tell your dentist that you do not want mercury fillings in your mouth - or in your community's environment. Write the FDA: Despite mercury's known toxicity, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has failed to take decisive action to protect children and unborn babies from amalgam - even though FDA's own scientific advisory panel concluded that amalgam is not safe for their developing neurological systems, which are most susceptible to mercury's neurotoxic effects.
