I don't write reviews very often, but this time I felt I had to make sure no one else will go through the same thing I did. I booked Gerfen a few years ago for a root canal and filling dentist appointment. The filling was done without leaving a gap by the tooth next to it, so the next day I had to come and ask her to fix it. She didn't warn or tell me about any of this after the actual appointment, but she just said, "Okay, I'll fix it." I was in shock, and I think her assistant was too at the time by her complete ignorance. Today, seven years later, I just got back from an oral surgeon who extracted the same tooth that Grefen did the root canal on.
The surgeon told me that it was done so poorly, he thought it was done by a student. I had to spend all this money and time on something that should not have been an issue in the first place. Don't trust this woman. She ruined my teeth, and I hope this review provides future viewers with caution before they book their next appointment.

I'm a new patient, and have already had 2 visits with Dr. Gerfen. During the first visit, I had a cleaning and x-rays with Hanna, the hygienist. She was fantastic; very sweet and very good at her job! Unfortunately I had to have some fillings, which I received on my second appointment. Dr. Gerfen is so gentle, skilled, efficient and professional; I truly felt like I was in very good hands with her. She's also a really lovely person.
She and her entire staff definitely take some of the *sting* out of a dental appointment, and they were all very personable, kind, and very accommodating. I HIGHLY recommend this practice!

I decided to give them a try when offered a free initial exam. That led to a $320 exam, cleaning and (doctor demanded) full x-rays. Aspen Dental does all that for free! Then upon returning for a filling they wanted $240 up front, insisted on yet another x-ray then jabbed me twice trying to take it. That was all I could take. Overpriced, overbearing & unprofessional.

Every time I went to this dentist they just wanted my money. They told me that multiple fillings wouldn't go over my covered insurance amount and then followed up with sending me a bill for overages. When I expressed concern about my teeth seeming to shift Dr. Gerfen told me told me that my wisdom teeth couldn't cause my teeth to move (I had corrective braces when I was younger so I can tell my teeth aren't as straight as they once were on the bottom).
I am now going to have to look into both getting my wisdom teeth removed (she told me this wasn't a concern) and potentially explore a solution to my teeth moving. While removing my wisdom teeth was apparently not a concern, she was insistent a get a cavity filled in one (I assume this is because if they get removed they get no money, but they do get paid for fillings).
I'm also suspicious I of the fillings I got in this office becasue instead of using just standard filling material the dentist used small cotton balls to fill in some of the cavity and put filling material over the top - I have since been told by others this is generally only used for temporary fillings (obviously that isn't what I paid for). Looking for a new dentist? I recommend looking elsewhere, unless you like being told you need to have expensive procedures done after every appointment.
