She attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC for her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, and she received her D.D.S. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Today, our doctors Dr. Robert B. Stephens and Dr. Angera Ma continue to uphold the high standard of dental care for Evanston residents that Dr. James Stephens began in 1959.

Stephens Dentistry started our dental practice in Evanston, IL over 60 years ago on the principles of honesty, integrity, and high-quality dental care. Dr. Robert Bruce Stephens provides excellent dentistry to Evanston residents. Dr. Bob, as he is known to both patients and team, also grew up in the North Shore area.
We strive to provide every patient that walks through our door with the best that dentistry has to offer. Dr. Ma at Stephens Dentistry is an exceptional dentist. She is attentive to your needs and questions, gentle, and explains very clearly and thoroughly how your teeth are doing. The whole office makes an effort to know every patient personally and you are always greeted by name when you arrive for your appointment. Everyone I've interacted with at Stephens over the years (many years now) has been very friendly, professional, and provides nothing but the best service.
It's true that you pay top dollar, but they also make sure that you get every single dollar's worth out of it and more. When a night guard I received from them didn't work for me, they provided me with additional options with no further cost until the problem was solved. I seriously cannot recommend Stephens enough if you are in need of a new dentist!

Fantastic dental care! Yesterday Dr. Bob replaced an old, chipped crown on one of my lower back molars. He explained everything he was doing as he worked, and he and the hygienist kept reassuring me that I was "doing a great job". (They were actually the ones who did the great job.) The entire process was pain-free, and I was in and out with a new crown in just over two hours. STEPHENS DENTISTRY is the place to go for all your dental care-everything from routine cleaning and x-rays to state-of-the-art crowns that are completed in a single visit.

Many people talk about the consistent and outstanding dental care we receive at Stephens; I echo those sentiments. Certainly the dentists and hygienists are top notch, keeping current with newest dental innovations and pain management, as well as being intelligent but approachable, structured and efficient but friendly, and very compassionate. So I won't go on about the folks who have to put their hands in our mouths. Rather, I want to applaud an oft overlooked crew at medical offices: the admin staff at Stephens.
From finance to reception everyone is so exceptionally polite, kind, warm, and helpful. Too often, especially during these weary, frustrating winter-in-Pandemic days (daze?) we call an office, clinic, business, or store for assistance of one kind or another and are met by a fatigued voice who doesn't even say the name of the place, let alone their own, or even offer a polite salutation. (IF an actual person answers!) When you call Stephens the staff ALWAYS answers with conviviality, saying you have, in fact, reached the dental office, telling you their name, and setting the tone right off: professional, ready to help, resourceful, polite, caring, and cheerful.
It's likely that, as they are human beings, the staff at Stephens isn't *always* having a perfectly awesome day. However, if they aren't, they don't project that to their patients. This, and the fact of long-term staff retention, demonstrates a well-managed clinic with people who are glad to be there and will put patient care first; they clearly care about their work, and one another, and they pay that forward.
Thank you, Stephens, for always making sure a real live person answers the phone, knows who I am, offers, "Good morning!" and happily assists me. If a person can be a fangirl to a dental practice, lol, I am one, and will always recommend Stephens to friends, family, and colleagues.

I have been going to Stephens Dentistry since moving to Evanston in 2007. My childhood fear of going to the dentist was put to ease by Dr. Jim. He listened to me and understood what he needed to do to ease my fears. Since his retirement I have had regular check ups with Dr. Bob who is an understanding as his brother. Recently, I had an issue with my jaw and bite and saw Dr. Ma.
She listened to me when I explained my bite didn't feel right and my jaw was sore. She asked if I was under any stress. I broke down in tears and said yes, 2021 had been a really hard. She was kind, caring, and compassionate and she came up with a plan to fix the problem. Over the years I have had several different hygienist for my twice yearly cleanings.
I feel as though I've gotten to know them and I am comfortable with any of them scraping away the stains left on my teeth from my coffee and red wine habits. The receptionists are efficient, helpful, and friendly. I would not hesitate in recommending Stephens Dentistry to anyone in need of a new dentist.

I've been seeing dentists at Stephen's Dentistry for a decade. All the staff are warm and welcoming. The dentist's use state-of-art technology and clearly look out for my interests which gives me confidence I'm getting the best possible dental care. Since Dr. Ma joined the practice I've seen her as my primary dentist for routine check ups after cleanings.
She is very special, like a friend we share family stores. Recently a cap on a front tooth cracked and both caps needed to be replaced, after living with them for 50 years. I dreaded having the dental work done, expecting like the old days painful novocaine injections and worrying the new cap would not match my other teeth. But there was no pain, the caps were perfect. Dr. Ma and her assistant Linda explained every step.
They even called the next day to see how I was doing. Can't get better than that. After my wife's dentist retired I convinced my wife to be a patient in the practice. She too has the same feelings about the care and especially how terrific is Dr. Ma. Thank you all, see you in six months for my next cleaning.

Stephens Dentistry fulfills all my dentistry needs: I can always count on them to take care of whatever questions, problems or dental needs I have and I can trust their care. The staff is so friendly and create a very comfortable experience (and they're fun too!). They provide quality work and there are no complaints! Dr. Bob and Dr. Ma are wonderful (and love their humor).

I've been going to Stephens Dentistry for a number of years. Even before the pandemic, they were scrupulous about making sure all were safe, with the staff wearing masks, great air filtration, etc. With the pandemic, they increased their efforts to make sure it was very safe for clients to be in the office. As for the dental care, it is the best. The dental hygienists are excellent at checking and cleaning teeth, in the most comfortable atmosphere.
The dentists are fabulous. I'm impressed that the staff who welcome me when I enter the office always know my name and are very friendly. I actually enjoy my visits to this dentist office!

I've been a patient of Stephens Dentistry for 60 years and I recommend them highly. Every single person who works there is very kind, and exceptionally competent and professional. I can honestly say that I enjoy going to the dentist! I know I'm always in great hands no matter what the reason is for my visit. I have recommended Stephens Dentistry to my family and friends over the years and will continue to do so. Simply put throat are THE BEST!

Best dentistry ever. Been going there for the last 20 years and they are the only dentistry I can lay back and put my full trust in them. I went to a few other dentists and I was shocked at what they did to my teeth without telling me. This dentistry communicates everything with you and never does anything without explaining it to you and getting your approval. Also, they use state of the art machinery and equipment are super nice people involved and make you feel like family, 6 out of 5 stars dentistry by far.

Absolutely stellar service. Came for a second opinion after another dentist said I needed two root canals. Luckily I was recommended Dr. Bob and Stephen's Dentistry. I was able to avoid the root canals and get fillings instead so I saved a bunch of money. The staff all treated me like family and were extremely nice and caring. I have always despised going to the dentist until I came here. The difference between Stephen's Dentistry and other dentists is incredible. Will definitely be returning
