Maintaining good dental habits at home, in between regular visits to the dentist, is important for sustaining great oral health and avoiding expensive dental procedures down the road. Brushing your teeth for three minutes at least twice a day (in the morning and before bed) is a vital step. Flossing at least once a day to clean the hard-to-reach places between teeth is also necessary in preventing tooth decay. Some simple habits, like drinking water after eating or drinking soda, make a difference, too.
Before visiting the dentist, make note of any questions or concerns you have about your teeth or oral health. If you are taking medications, write them down or be prepared to let the dentist know before any procedures are done. It isn't necessary to brush your teeth before you arrive, but you are welcome to do so if it makes you more comfortable.

Dr. J is a nice and friendly dentist all tho I had a Root Canal done by him 3 years ago and developed a twitch in my face the very next day. When I went in for my recheck I told him about my face twitch. He automatically said it was stress related. which I know for a fact stress makes my heart weird not my face. So I finally switched dentists got referred to a specialist for the root canal as they found an absess and had to redo the root canal.
And it has been almost 1 week since the redo root canal and MY FACE IS TWITCH FREE! Best feeling in the world! It was aweful wondering if my face was going to twitch from day to day especially when I deal with the public for my job!

I used to have such fear and procrastination about going to the dentist. Dr. Johnson and his staff have changed that for me. I expect state-of-the-art equipment and technical expertise but for me a dental experience void of fear with a positive result requires more than that. Dr. Johnson's patient clear explanations of options and procedures, his confident knowledge and his kind demeanor gave me a calm confidence I never before had at the dentist.

I'm very happy to write this review. I started a tooth pain on Friday and Saturday went to the only place open and they told me to find a place to do ROOT CANAL. Over the weekend was really bad and pain was awful. Monday I called this office and at 7.30 they answered my call. I could go as earliest as 8.20. immediately I was having a root canal and I couldn't be more happier!
About the pain? I don't even remember the pain from the weekend. The whole experience was so easy and I didn't feel anything after that. Need to come back for my crown and a cleaning. This office offers their own dental plan which is good to me 299 a year including emergency, 2 cleaning, dsct on other procedures! I really feel blessed I found this place and they could help me!

The staff is very nice however coming in with an issue, Dr. Johnson makes you feel as though you are making it up or that you don't know what you're talking about. I had a root canal plus crown and had issues afterwards, rather then taking an X-ray to see what could be the issue he just sanded down my other GOOD tooth so that my bite would be less.
Come to find out I had an infection in my tooth that he had performed the root canal on. Never once did he take an X-Ray after my complaint and now I had an upper GOOD tooth that was sanded down for no reason. If I hadn't followed my instincts and gotten a second option I'd still have the infection in my tooth and possibly lost the tooth in the long run.
He is very cocky and each time I went in with a question on the tooth having issues I was treated as though I didn't know what I was talking about or that I just didn't know what tooth I was having issues with. I went to a specialist and they did 3D X-rays. There exact words were "There is def. room for improvement on this root canal".

Over the years, I've learned that finding the right dental hygienist is far more important than the dentist. No offense to dentists, it's just that patients usually spend more time with the hygienist. For me, it's important to have a hygienist who is gentle, personable, kind, and not judgmental. I've found all of that in Ruth! She praises the things I'm doing right, and gently reminds me of the things I could be doing better. I've never felt judged for not flossing enough, because Ruth understands that things happen in life that make us forget or get out of the habit. She's also great with kids! She's patient, kind, and fun, never forceful.
She asks permission before doing something, even counting teeth. Kids respond well to that kind of respect. I've had the good fortune of never needing dental work in the three years that I've been going to The Smile Center. Once a year, I get x-rays and an examination by the dentist, Dr. Johnson. (I go twice a year, so the other visit is just a cleaning.) He is always very kind and personable.
He talks about his family and hobbies, and asks about mine - he doesn't just look at my teeth and run. He points out potential future problem areas, but doesn't push any unnecessary procedures or products. I very much appreciate that! As for cost, I have shopped around, and the cost of a cleaning and exam is not significantly higher than other places in Bismarck or Mandan.
Maybe a little. I don't have insurance, and I pay in full each time, so I can't comment on the availability of payment plans. The front desk staff are also very kind and friendly. I am greeted warmly when I arrive and am wished well when I leave. All in all, every visit has been a very pleasant one for me for the last 3 years.

Dr. Johnson and his staff were amazing. I am like most people who fear the dentist. Dr. Johnson and his staff were patient and talked me thru everything they were going to do. Dr. Johnson and his staff were wonderful with our two kids on their first visit ever to the dentist! Very welcoming and friendly! Everyone explained what they were going to do in a way the kids could understand and were very good if the kids were nervous or scared. The kids keep asking when they get to go back and lucky them, it's later this month! I highly recommend the Smile Center for all your dental needs.

Dr. Johnson has been our dentist for several years. We have always received the best dental care anyone could wish for. He has brought the newest technology to the business. I have had numerous dental problems for the past thirty years. Since Dr. Johnson has been my dentist, the proceedures he used have always been pain free and completely successful. Dr. Johnson is a very caring doctor.
He does not allow his patients to suffer, even if he has to come in after hours or on a weekend. If he has a concern about your comfort after a proceedure, he will give you a call in the evening. The staff and dental assistants at the Smile Center have the most friendly and helpful staff that can be be found anywhere.

Made an appointment because I had been in pain for some time. Staff ran a battery of x-rays before running my insurance information, only to tell me afterward that my insurance would not cover the x-rays or the necessary root canal for unclear reasons. I agreed to pay out of pocket for the x-rays, and the woman with billing attempted to convince me to have the procedure done that day, despite me repeatedly telling her that I did not have enough money to pay the entire amount out of pocket (Over $2500) although that was what I wanted and needed.
They outright refused to even discuss the possibility of a payment plan with me even when I offered to pay half the amount up front. I spent $300 and still left in terrible pain. Doctor prescribed a medication but it was sent to the wrong pharmacy, when I finally did obtain it it was a generic antibiotic that did nothing for my pain. The only circumstances I can recommend the Smile Center under are if you have dental problems that you do not want fixed, but need to trick someone into thinking you tried to get them fixed. They'll be happy to take your money in exchange for nothing.

I have been going to Dentists for 27 years. I have seen Dentists in 5 of the major cities in North Dakota. My visits to Dr Aaron and staff took me by surprise. I experienced respect, privacy and compassion. Dr Aaron took a great deal of time with each procedure.explaining options and outcomes. The results of his artistry are excellent. You see, he has a natural talent which he uses with resourcefulness and creativity. I had some major problems to resolve and he was up to the challenge. I highly recommend The Smile Center you will not be disappointed.
