I have had 5 appointments at Apex Dental in the past year. I have always been treated by Dr. Mary Kolathu. I have found her to be gentle, confident, professional & hard working. She always explains why she need to perform a particular Dental procedure & also describes how to take action to protect new dental work. I would recommend her wholeheartedly as a dentist. Julie Casas is a dental assistant who worked with Dr Mary Kolathu today. I found her to be professional, gentle and encouraging.

The staff is very friendly, that's the positive. This might have been an isolated incident, but I'm fairly frustrated that I had several appointments and confirmed multiple times how I wished to proceed. It took me waiting in the office for over an hour to find out that they couldn't do the procedure as discussed and the options were to either split the time (which is adverse to ideal healing) or wait.
Given how insurance deductibles work (reset at the end of the year) it's kind of ridiculous they made a mistake, but its me that will pay the additional time and money and the response was simply "sorry, they shouldn't have said that, typically we would have seen these and discussed prior"

Horrible customer service. Horrible administrative follow through. This used to be a great place when it was Simon's Dental. It is now a horrible mismanaged franchise. We switched insurance carriers before proceeding with my wife's final visit. They had all the new information and accepted our new insurance prior to my wife continuing her appointment but decided to bill my previous insurance we no longer had.
We explained they billed the wrong insurance and they needed to bill the correct one. This has gone on for a year & now instead of fixing it on their end they decided to attempt to send it to collections. Bill the right insurance and DO YOUR JOB!

My mom came in for a routine cleaning, exam and x-rays a couple of weeks ago. The staff is very nice and the dentist was very thorough and explained my mom's treatment plan and all that was going on with her teeth. However. her blood pressure was too high to proceed with the cleaning. We came back for the cleaning and some crown work but her blood pressure was again too high.
They couldn't proceed with the procedures for risk of a stoke. We will return after she gets a medical clearance from her doctor. I'm glad Dr. B takes precaution and safety first over revenue.

My son had his four wisdom teeth removed. When I asked him how he was feeling, he replied, "Dr. Desai has awesome hands, if I had any doubts about becoming a dentist now I know for sure I want to be one". He had a very positive experience. Thank you Dr. Desai. Highly recommended! Also, highly professional office staff.

Apex Dental is an all-around fantastic place to get any dental work done. I went in to get my wisdom teeth extracted and was utterly nervous about the outcome; however, upon walking in, I was greeted with nothing but smiles and jokes to help ensure that I was comfortable and less anxious for my procedure. My procedure went smoothly, and the dentist was extremely cautious and gentle to guarantee that during my recovery process, I wouldn't be in immense pain or have a problem swelling up or bruising. If I ever need any future dental work done, I'll be coming back to Apex Dental.

When this place first changed hands they were struggling with building issues, new equipment coming in etc. I drive over an hour to Austin so when I came for an appt one time there was equip failure so I rescheduled. I thought perhaps once they got settled all would be fine. I'm only going to stick w/ the bigger issues here tho. I called ahead one day prior to driving all the way over and was met with a closed building.
No one answering the phone no note on the door and no, not lunch time. The last time I visited for a cleaning and the guy there was NOT a hygienist. He talked non stop about how he loved hygien and being one and literally did nothing but take xrays. He said I made his job easy w/ such clean teeth. Then I was charged for a cleaning. Besides that my dentist did not come in though I saw her there another dentist came in and after looking at my teeth determined I needed 5-7 thousand $ work on two teeth.
This included two root canals and two crowns. Surprising enough this dentist I didn't know said she could do the root canals herself. Hmmm- After the fake hygienist and several other questionable items I'm not listing I decided to get a second opinion. One other item to be careful of. I paid over $700 for a bite plate made for TMJ that was very thin and flexible AND had to be replaced after I had other teeth worked on.
When the next dentist tried to retrieve the VERY EXPENSIVE X-rays I just had Very recently, Apex said they couldn't forward them. I ended up with one tooth capped the other she saved and no root canals. Last but not least a new bite TMJ plate that was formed outside of the clinic and still took 30 minutes to sculpt and fit precisely. Seriously, a work of art. Its solid and worth the $750. The owner of this building is very sweet and I wish her the very best but I would never go back there they have any work done on my mouth

We first had an appointment scheduled here but it got cancelled for the reason that the doctor will be away for a whole week due to family issues. They had us reschedule for an appointment about a month away(which would be today). So I went for our appointment today to find out that it had been cancelled again for a different reason which was: their pumps were broken.
That I understand but what I am upset about is I called them this morning to confirm my appointment time since they had changed the time the day before. When I called, they said that their computers weren't working well and that they were not sure about the appointment time. They told us to come in at the changed time anyways. I am just upset that they didn't let me know about the pumps when I called this morning and the fact that we got cancelled on twice, once on the day of. I will be switching to a dentist with better management.

My family and I have been going to this dental practice since they took over from Simon Dental and we have had excellent service! We are very pleased with the work that their dentists and dental hygienists have done. They are extremely good at what they do and are super compassionate people. The reason I am writing this review is because I have a son with Autism who is deathly afraid of going to the dentist and the people who work here ALL have gone to extremes to accommodate my son and help him get the treatments he needs.
Everyone I have seen or dealt with has been wonderful, honest, and extremely competent at what they do from cleaning our teeth, putting in fillings, and doing crowns. This is a GREAT dental practice!

I SO WISH I would have read the reviews before coming to this establishment. My last appt here was Nov. 2020, and went in for a "cleaning". When I walked back with the hygienist, he was ready to give me a root canal and had someone else's X-rays on the screen. He apologized and found my X-rays and told me that I needed a "deep scaling" at which point I told him I only made the appt for a cleaning and was not even sure I needed a deep scaling.
The hygienist even agreed with me and told me that he didn't think I needed a deep scaling either. He explained that many hygienists will recommend a deep scaling to charge the insurance more. I thanked him for his honesty and told him I would be finding a new dentist. I walked out and told the dentist I would not be back and that I would be finding another dentist. NOTHING WAS DONE AT THIS APPOINTMENT.
A month later I receive a bill in the mail from apex dental for the cleaning I never received and they charged my insurance for a service that was NEVER rendered. INSURANCE FRAUD! It's been over a month of trying to get a hold of this establishment and I've finally gotten a hold of Shelly from the front desk (bless her heart, I've been so frustrated).
She continues to tell me that her office manager is away from her desk but that she'll get back to me. I received an EMAIL from this mysterious Office Manager today, not a phone call but an email. Stating that they reduced the price to $70 that I owe and that it was from a 2019 visit (which isn't true, as this bill that I was given was dated for the 2020 visit and I have proof of payment on my 2019 visit).
I ASSURE YOU, I'm glad she put this in writing because I have statements and EOB from my insurance on both visits that will prove how FRAUDULENT THIS DENTISTRY IS. And now I have something in writing from this "Office Manager" that makes the case. I will be contacting the BBB on this establishment. Perhaps they're performing fraud because they can't keep their clients from what it looks like! FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD ALL THE WAY AROUND.

Love this place. I had left the previous dentists because they constantly have new people on staff and I don't like that. I've had the same position since this practice was bought out and have had great, comfortable, painless and thorough care since I've been visiting Apex. They are a cutting edge/state of the art practice and they work hard of creating the best care and outcome for your individual needs. Professional yet warm welcoming staff. So very glad to have returned to give the new owners a try!

Why can't I leave 0 stars? THEY CHARGED MY CARD $232.00 WITHOUT PERMISSION 5 MONTHS AFTER MY APPOINTMENT! We have been coming here for over 15 years. They are under new management and have all new staff. They stopped taking my insurance and did not let us know till after they "completed" procedures on my son. I paid over $450 for that. Then had to have it redone at another office 4 months later.
They charged my check card $232.00 5 months after my last cleaning appointment without permission. I went in person to find out what was going on. They were not sure why the took money out without permission and promised to call me back in one week. To issue me a refund. It has been over a month and no return call and no one has even looked into the issue.
I am here now, have been here 1 hour and 40 minutes. The only person that can "handle" this issue was called into a "meeting" but didn't even let us know. I'm sure she snuck out to lunch. NEVER COME HERE.

Excellent dental care! I had such a kind and gentle experience with the new owner/dentist that I enjoyed the dental work which required a lot of drilling and replacing of a very old filling. She was engaging, patient, considerate with my care, and I will say the very best dental experience I have ever had! My hygienist was also very lovely and did a great job.

If I could give less than a one star rating I would. I have been going here since I was a child however since it is under new management that will no longer be the case. I was about 20 mins late because of my commute from San Marcos. I parked in an adjacent parking lot because the parking situation at simons dental can be a stressful maneuver. I have no clue if the staff saw me but I assume they thought I was a walk-in from the street.
Moral Question of the day: should that affect your treatment of incoming patients? I was in town for my birthday and for whatever reason my mother suggested a dental checkup. I was instantly met with hostility from an elderly white receptionist. Due to time constraints she claimed they would not have time to clean my teeth but it was possible to still do X-Rays.
I made her aware that I was not too worried about the cleaning and the X-rays were all that seemed important. She condescendingly replied, "Well, do you still have insurance.?" The answer is yes but the tone and question were clearly due to my age and race. She quickly back peddled and stated that a patient had "just" canceled and they would have time to go on with my appointment as planned.
At this point her attitude could not be ignored and I grew tired of her snooty whispers with some other dental assistant and made her aware that this encounter had begun to irritate me even having to repeat myself. I was promptly told "well, you can leave." And with the speed of Usain Bolt I was out of the door never to return. Those who were patients of Simons Family Dental in their prime will be sorely disappointed. Do not go here.

We were clients of this dental office for over 14 years until they switched owners about a year ago. We thought we'd give them a try and it was absolutely horrible. Not only were the dentists rotating each time we went in so were the staff members. No one seemed to know what was going on. Our last visit broke the camels back. The dentist, again a new one, said that my daughter had over six cavities and needed a bridge.
We got a second opinion and found out if wasn't true. When we changed dentist offices we asked Apex to send our records or at least x-rays. They fought us tooth and nail. Be aware of this place.

We were patients of Simons Dental for 10 years. I never had a problem with the front office staff or any of the Dr.s My children and I regularly had cleanings and routine maintenance done. Tracy was excellent with my children and saw them from 2 y.o. into their teen years. My husband had to have a root canal, it was done by Brian. He had several problems during the process and even a year and two down the road, they re-did the root canal.
When this became Apex Dental we started having several problems. The front office staff was rude. We had several communication issues about basic routine stuff like re-scheduling appointments, getting estimates for mouth guards, fees for exams (preventative) ect. All they did was blame the staff before them and make excuses, for nearly 2 years. Eventually it was clear it was no longer a transition from Simons problem, but an APEX problem.
I was tired of asking for the estimates I needed after 14 months of calling. My husband had more problems with his root canal tooth and needed work done. They refused to stand behind the warranty of the previous work and wanted to charge him $800. (that was a 40% discount) to re-do the work. We went to another dentist and had it done for $624. We have fired Apex as our dentist. The lack of accountability, reliable front office management and lack of communication is sad. The joy and care that used to be in this building is now gone.
