At City Kids Dental, we provide all the essential services your child may need, including but not limited to the following. Have a question about a service you do not see listed below? Our focus in on prevention! We offer Infant, Child, Adolescent and Special Needs Patient Examinations of the hard and soft tissues of the mouth, professional dental cleanings, and topical fluoride treatments.
Primary (baby) teeth should be brushed from the moment they first erupt into the mouth using a soft toothbrush and a smear or lentil-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste if your child is not spitting and a pea-sized amount if they can. Use a non-fluoridated toothpaste or only water for independent tots who insist on brushing on their own, but end up sucking on the brush.

Big big shout out to the anesthesia team, and Dr. Mary at City Kids Dental for providing extraordinary care. It was the handholding, pretend play, and treating my son respectfully and kindly throughout, that made us feel like we were sitting in your living room. Thank you @citykidsdentalchicago for the compassionate healthcare. I'm grateful my son got to experience good people. #childlife #pediatrics #medical #health #life #dental #dentist #dentalsurgery #surgery #pscyhoeducation #preparation #anesthesia #anesthesiology #chicago #chicagomom #chicagoparent

I went to three dentists and made many calls before I landed on City Kids for my three year old high needs child who needed laughing gas and wouldn't be separated from me. No one wanted to take her for her age, and no one had laughing gas to offer her. Other dentists wanted to separate us for the procedure and put her in a papoose. The dentists at City Kids were super cool and did their jobs while I was in the room with my child, not flinching at my daughter's uncertainty when she arrived and completed the job of filling four cavities in 30 minutes while my daughter enjoyed a teddy bear, laughing gas, and Netflix.
My daughter had no pain and we left happy both times. My toddler's smile is tops! HIGHLY recommend. I paid out of pocket but would do it over and over for the quality experience and expertise that City Kids offered us. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Without being affiliated with a pediatric dentist, my son recently had a dental emergency and in a panic I called a few different practice's after hours line. one of which was City Kids Dental. Dr. Mary called me back within 2 minutes when others took over 2 hours. Without being affiliated with her practice she reviewed photos of my son's injury over the phone, asked questions, and answered all of my questions. all while putting me at ease in a stressful moment. I'm tremendously impressed.

I was very pleased with City Kids Dental. This was my daughters first visit to this dentist since we moved from out of state. The staff took very good care of her. She left there feeling proud and special. The front desk also was very prompt with my paperwork. I received my reimbursement from my insurance company within 2 weeks. I highly recommend City Dental.

What is this magical place? My daughter's first visit to the dentist was traumatic (it wasn't at City Kids). For a year after the visit, if I mentioned I was going to the dentist, she would erupt in tears. I booked an appointment at City Kids and gave the warning - she's more than nervous and may not cooperate. They understood, they recommended an early appointment on a weekday, so that there would be fewer other kids there.
First visit, she was a nervous wreck. The hygienist and dentist were total pros. They met her in the waiting room and only went as far as she let them go. They counted teeth, taught her to floss, and got her to walk to the back, but didn't push her to get into the chair when she lost her brain (in fairness to all, another tiny kid was in a chair and started screaming, which inspired my kid's screaming).
They encouraged me to stop by and play in the waiting room before the next appointment. Great idea - I didn't make it back. Next appointment, she was still nervous, but was willing to get in the chair to watch cartoon and have her teeth counted. The hygienist was a magician/kid whisperer. She communicated every step of the process clearly and creatively.
She performed steps on a stuffed animal, so she could see. My daughter had a full cleaning & inspection. At the end, she told me that she loves the dentist and is disappointed that she has to wait 6 months before she can go back. City Kids is awesome. My kid tells friends about her sparkly princess smile procedure (polishing teeth) and kissing dentist tools (suction straw). She needs a pediatric check-up and she told me that she only wants to visit the dentist now. The dentist is her favorite.

We've been going to Dr. Mary since she was further south on Lincoln Ave. We love her. Her chair side manner and reassuring way really keep the kids relaxed and help make sure that they have a positive attitude about going to the dentist. The advances in dentistry since my childhood mean that my children really don't have the cavities, etc. that I had, and Dr. Mary's mastery of the new techniques is really reassuring.
I can't recommend her, and her fabulous office staff, too much. She's not "in plan" for a lot of insurance plans, so you have to pay upfront, but insurance reimburses. Just make sure that you understand the procedure ahead of time, so that there are no hard feelings.

It was really important to me, as a parent, to find a dentist that would make me feel confident my daughter was in good hands and, allow her to feel safe and good about going to the dentist. City Kids Dental and Dr. Mary have done that and more! My daughter looks forward to going to the dentist and is invested in her daily oral hygiene so she can have great exam results! This makes me happy and relieved:.

Dr. Mary and her staff are the best. We have been happy patients for 11 years and have only positive things to say. My daughter ranks going to the dentist as high as going to an amusement park- for real ( ok yep it's a little weird- I know ).Dr. Mary and her staff know how to make a child feel comfortable and she loves their movies, prize machine and " goody bag" with new tooth brush etc. Dr. Mary and her staff have wonderful bedside manner with both my kids and also with parents. I feel so lucky to have my children be part of such a stellar dental practice. I give my highest recommendation to this practice!

We have been going to City Kids since we moved into the neighborhood 9 years ago. My kids are the best dental patients and have zero anxiety because they make the visit as low stress, non-judgmental, and positive as can be. I cannot recommend them enough. My daughter even said at her last visit she wants to be a pediatric dentist! Dr. Mary and Dr. Testa are the absolute BEST!

I took my daughter for her first ever dentist appointment today - and was prepared for the worst as she's not an easy patient (at the doctor at least). When I made the appointment the woman I spoke with assured me they'd seen it all and would at least try to get my daughter comfortable enough to "count" her teeth and might need a second appointment for the actual cleaning if she freaked out too much.
Imagine my surprise when my daughter got through an exam, cleaning, flossing, fluoride treatment - the works! It was totally due to Dr Mary's fantastic approach - she let her pick out a little mirror and timer and brush head and paste flavor, and my daughter got to sit in my lap and watch cartoons the whole time. I have a lifelong dental phobia and am so happy my daughter is off to such a positive start with her own dental care! She left the office showing off her sparkly smile after hugging Dr Mary goodbye. I couldn't be happier.

My kid came in with a loose baby tooth, they just lifted the tooth out, no injection, no tears, nothing. One second job. I wanted to do it myself, but my daughter didn't trust me. I thought it would be free. They asked $270. When I complained, they lowered it to $100. My blood is still boiling. No shame! I loved the doctor, but now I can't even stand thinking about the place. Yuck.

They do a great job with kids' teeth. The office space is very kid-friendly, with a waiting room full of entertaining books and activities. But you don't wait long - they are consistently right on time, or even early for appointments. Once the child is sitting in the dental chair, they are given sunglasses to protect their eyes from the bright lights, and their choice of video which assures they will stay (relatively) still during the cleaning. The hygenists are fast and efficient, and the dentists are responsive and quick too, talking in terms the child can understand about the importance of brushing. I recommend!

We've been coming to City Kids Dental with 3 kids for over 8 years and love the place! Dr. Mary has a true gift making the kids feel comfortable and my kids like going there, even though we had more work done than just a basic check-up / cleaning. The staff is super friendly and accommodating and I love the fact that we never have to wait more than 5 minutes. Billing is also very convenient and I always know what to expect. The location is convenient with easy street parking and right by the Brown Line. Certainly a 5-star dental office!

Our 8 yr-old daughter has been coming to Dr. Mary since she was 2 - she makes going to the dentist a much easier process bc of her kind, patient and fun personality. My daughter thinks she is fantastic! All of the dentists and hygentists at this practice are incredible and each puts my daughter at ease for her visits - they have the magic touch.

Between the frustration with trying to get insurance reimbursements and the frustration with scheduling or rescheduling appointments, it is just not worth it. Whoever came up with the policy to not see kids under age 5 after 3:30pm had no concern for working moms in mind. I'm taking my business elsewhere.

City Kids Dental makes seeing the Dentist so very easy! Every one there is so absolutely nice and we have never had to wait to see the doctor. We usually are escorted right back to the chair as soon as we have checked in. My 9 year old son enjoys watching a movie/cartoon or talking to the hygienist while waiting for the doctor. The best part. Dr. Mary!
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Mary.she is the best! She is just great with the kids. She is always friendly and talks to the kids about their interests, school updates, and other things that they find interesting. We would recommend City Kids Dental to everyone!

Dr. Mary and Juana surely have angel wings under their clothing. Due to my kids' anxieties, I've tried 3 different kid dental places in Chicago, this office has been the best. They do their work with heart and kindness. They show empathy to the kids and talk them the entire way through, even when Tom and Jerry cartoons playing overhead can be distracting. Everyone there is pleasant. One of the few offices where you call and always get a friendly person on the other line, Everything is so easy, Way worth the money!

The care seems ok, although they are quite eager to xray and find cavities. Also, no insurance taken and even though I was reassured by their office that their charges are what insurance companies call "fair and reasonable" I ended up with over $200 paid out of pocket (paid $450 for 2 routine exams for 2 kids). I would say if your child is extremely squirmy or active to the point where you have difficulty controlling them, it would be a decent place to go - otherwise stay in-network with your family dentist!

Dr. Mary is really great. The kids love her. Extremely knowledgeable. Her hygienists are also very good. Have been going for years and would highly recommend her to anyone. Only negative for me would be the cost and the fact that she will not take insurance, so I have to pay her high costs up front and then wait to be reimbursed. Kind of annoying. Truthfully though, if I was in her line of work, most likely I would take the same approach. We all know what a bunch of slime these insurance companies are. All in all, you want a top notch kids dentist. Go there.

I agree with all the other posters here regarding Dr. Tierney's skilled handling of 3-year-olds. My kids were petrified of dentists when we first started going; there were a couple of times that they simply refused to cooperate for the entire visit. Dr. Tierney and her staff were remarkably patient and kind and tried every trick in the book, devoting way more time to my kids than I'm sure was allotted in the appointment schedule.
I was so impressed that I continued to come back to the practice after moving to Oak Park, despite the less-than-fun trek up Western. My kids are no longer scared. They are still treated wonderfully. However, I won't be going back. While the dental staff can be very accommodating for kid behavior, they make absolutely ZERO accommodation for busy parents.
In fact, they seem to delight in being unaccommodating. Insurance? They don't take it. They say they submit to insurance plans for "reimbursement" but I have yet to see a reimbursement -- there is no incentive for them to follow up and they simply don't. My last bill was $500 out of pocket, which I'll never see again. They won't send evidence of submitted receipts so you can follow up yourself.
Despite their getting paid high rates and NOT discounted insurance rates, they require a ransom for missed appointments, too. No exception for sick kids, etc. I've never experienced this, but I know that others have been treated abominably. My last straw? After driving from Oak Park for forty minutes for TWO half-hour appointments, I was told "gee, I'm not sure we can take you." I was 7 minutes late. SEVEN.
I had two appointments scheduled back to back, and I'm quite sure my now 6 year olds weren't going to take half-hour time. I'm not saying it's ok to be late, but look at the schedule first! Say Hello before threatening to cancel the appointment! Again, absolutely no effort at accommodation even when the facts easily allow it. Eventually, they allowed both. Gee, thanks. We were out of there in 30 minutes, leaving them an extra thirty minutes to chastise someone else.

After a major accident where my general dentist told us we had to extract my 3 year old's tooth, Dr. Testa at City Kids suggested we wait and see what happens. She was right! We waited and the tooth revitalized itself! Now, today we returned after we were told my 6 year needed to start ortho work by the general dentist. Again, Dr. Mary said let's wait till she's at least 8 and see what happens.
And we are! I'm so glad we've got both of our kids at City Kids Dental. They are on the conservative side of interventions, yet working within evidence based practices to ensure our kids' teeth are taken care of the right way. I trust them to do what's best for my kids, and I even learn something new every time I go in there on how to better care for my kids' (and my own) dental health! Yeah City Kids!

I have always dreaded when I would have to take my kids in for the first time to see a dentist. I imagine screaming, kicking, and biting. When we went to see Dr. Mary, it was the total opposite! She has this demeanor about her that makes you feel so relaxed! My son loved her and how she spoke to him and asked questions in her sweet voice! My son respects her so much he will tell me he can't have chewy candy because Dr, Mary said it was bad for his teeth! If you have kids, you have to go see Dr. Mary!
