I went in to fix a front crown. Dr. Licking and Ty did a wonderful job, except the tooth color didn't match all that well. (They have limited color choices in the office.) They fit me in a week later to redo a mold and then sent it to their local lab. Since the color was difficult to match, they had me go to the lab to get a perfect match. Doc put it on today, and it is just perfect. I so appreciate his attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile to make it right.

Everything they do is with superb care! Already such a clean and hygienic office & great staff! Dr. Lickings spent more in ensuring safety due to covid with additional filteration systems+ and recommended guidelines for safety. Our insurance changed from Delta to Guardian. So HAPPY he's in their PPO!

I have been extremely fortunate with having Dr. Licking as my dentist for several years. Dr. Licking's skills are beyond commendable and his manner is quite gentle. I never feel uneasy, or question his abilities while I'm sitting in his dental chair. His staff, Judy, Annie, Ty and all his hygienist are alway very professional, warm and welcoming! I never question that my dental health as well as comfort is their utmost priority.

Always fun visiting Dr. Licking. Been going there for 3 years now, he is a straight-shooter, no unnecessary cleaning or filling recommendations. He takes a look, recommends only what's necessary and no more. I've healthy teeth and he has been cleaning them for me for 3 years now. You can also request for the doctor to take care of the cleaning when you make the appointment.

For many years, my cleanings were done both at Licking's office, & later the same year, at Foothill College Dental Clinic. Licking's office always gladly scheduled my next appointment. Last time at Licking's office, I was greeted by a polite, new hygienist. Soon after she started cleaning, her metal tools pressed painfully against my gums.
I raised my hand & gently noted the pain. She nodded, & re-started the cleaning. After raising my hand for the 3d time (all within 14 minutes), I got out of the chair. I was not threatening or hostile, nor did I raise my voice. I merely said, "We're finished." "Are you going to wait to meet with the dentist?", she asked. "No", I replied. I calmly told the receptionist why I was leaving.
I don't believe Licking's hygienist was intentionally hurtful. But she lacked skills in listening, confirming the patient's concerns, & then adjusting her technique. During my dentist-visiting career--including w/the excellent students at Foothill--I've never had to stop a hygienist more than once, & I've never left an office because of pain-infliction.
Maybe Licking thought I made random appts with hygienists so I could feloniously bend their metal tools w/my gums & lips. In all cases, this hygienist's training(?) was poorly supervised. Which, of course, is Licking's absolute right as owner. But as painful as Licking's hygienist was, I WAS MORE PAINED BY LICKING'S INABILITY to promptly & competently respond as a responsible business-owner to a customer's thoughtfully- stated concerns about a sloppy & painful cleaning-attempt. Licking didn't call during our after-"cleaning" scheduled-time.
Nor did he call later that day. Tho I prefer talking, I then sent Licking an email. I didn't blame his hygienist. I just noted my experience so he could improve his business & earn my trust. Receiving no reply, 2 days later I called his office & was told Licking sent me a letter. When I got the letter, it appeared he had taken dictation while sitting on his paralegal's lap: the letter was full of platitudes, & ignored the sloppy, painful work.
More than 2 weeks after the 'cleaning' fiasco, Licking called me. I didn't know why he called, & after a few minutes, it was clear that Licking didn't know why either. I asked he confirm that my dental records would be sent to me. Then I wished him well. The receptionist, Annie, is sweet. One of her jobs is to use the paralegal's scripts to "respond" to Yelp complaints. Which is why the "responses" are full of platitudes & seldom thoughtfully address the writer's concerns. NOT Annie's fault!

My visit today was unplanned due to needing a crown put back in place. I am very grateful to have been fit into Dr. Licking's schedule. The process was very smooth, painless, and I was finished after half an hour in the chair. The Covid-19 protocol reassuring that I was in no danger at all. This is a fantastic dental office; all the people are wonderful.

Crook! Performed invasive treatment, lost a tooth for it. Mr. Licking drilled a tooth so hard without my knowledge or concent while being numbed. He also never explained his procedures, as I trusted him blindly with the previous reviews of being a gentle caring dentist. He has wonderful receptionist staff. I just can't fathom why the indifference he has in causing long term harm then help for a healthier solution.

Dr, Licking and his staff are so amazing. My family and I are so grateful for his exemplary skill. I just regret my tardiness in posting this review. My husband needed a crown and it was all completed in one visit. The office has a state of the art crown carving machine. No more 2-3 visits for a permanent crown. My son went in for his routine cleaning and a cavity was noted. The office got him in the same day later in the afternoon. We also love his late appointments! Thank You Dr. Licking you and your staff are one of a kind.

As a health care practitioner, I appreciate the natural ozone therapy Dr. Licking uses in his office. I was misdiagnosed at another dental office, where they tried to upsell me on expensive dental care. Looking for a more holistic approach I found Dr. Licking, who determined that not only I did not need extensive work, but he could treat my cavity with ozone therapy. No drilling or drugs! I also like the thoroughness and experience of his hygienist, and the friendliness of the front office staff.

Dr. Licking has been our family dentist for over 20 years. He is an exceptional dentist. He's honest, sincere, full of integrity and depth. He has a gentle, kind nature that puts you at ease. Even with emergencies, he finds time to fit you in. He is a consummate professional and makes sure that his patients are well-formed about the procedures he recommends or is performing, before, during, and after the work is done.
His entire staff is also excellent and feel like family. I think about them during holidays and whenever I pass by the office. They help create a welcoming ambiance, and represent a positive aspect of living in Sunnyvale, aside from the great weather.

Excellent! Yes, it is expensive but worth. As an adult, we only have this set of teeth for the rest of life. Just as the famous book Freakonomics reveals, I used to have a cost efficient dentist but it turns out that he always wants to persuade me to have root canal! Luckily I found Dr. Licking, I have bad teeth but none of them are died. Dr. Licking is using the latest dental technology.
For me, I'd like to pay additionally for them to save my teeth. I have spent around $8,000 out of my pocket here, $6,000 is for preventative crowns. Dr. Licking is trustable, again, none of my teeth are died. If I did crown from my last dentist, I believe I would need additional root canal to kill my teeth.

If you have a fear of dentists. fear no more, Dr. Licking is fantastic! I had an appointment today for an emergency situation with a back molar. He is a compassionate and very detailed dentist. He spent a good amount of time explaining my situation and helped to ease my nervousness and concern. His assistant Thai was very kind and helped me through the process. Thank you Dr. Licking and Thai!

Dr Licking saw our 5yr old daughter for an emergency visit late Saturday evening after she'd slammed head-first into a closet door and a front tooth had been shoved up into her gums. We were terrified and our regular dentist didn't return our calls. Dr Licking answered our call personally, greeted us at the front of the office, gently spoke to and examined our daughter, checked for serious issues, and advised us on next steps.
He answered our questions and we did not feel rushed. His office had been closed so I believe he came in just for us - wow! We are tremendously grateful for Dr Licking's personal care and attention when we needed it most. We'd trust him with any of our dental care. What a gem!

Why does your website list root canals and root canal retreatments as procedures you offer when Dr. Licking is not an endodontist and does not offer these treatments? You make an appointment thinking the dentist does these things, get charged for a consultation, and then shuffled off to another office. Very bait and switch!

The practice was very professional, and everyone was friendly and most importantly the place was clean and efficient. I feel that Dr. John Licking is very confident in what he does, and I felt comfortable during the teeth cleaning. I won't dread the next doctor's visit and I am looking forward to getting more work done through this practice.
It was my first visit, and I can already see a significant difference in my brighter smile, thanks Dr. Licking! Seems their equipment are high end machines, I was done in 45- with X Ray and photo's of all angles in my mouth included. It was very nice to stick around and chat with Annie at the front desk :

Just wanted to update my previous average review to 4 stars because Judy from Dr. Licking's office reached out to refund my $$ and offer to rectify whatever issues I had with the whitening treatment that I received. It was not about the money, but that was certainly honorable that they would reverse the charge. In hindsight, I wish I had spoken to them prior to posting this review, because I am sure it would have been resolved in the same professional manor. Like I said, the staff here is great and Dr. Licking is a top notch dentist. FWIW, the color of my teeth still look great.

Dr Licking has been my dentist since i was a kid and my whole family goes to him. I even have my boyfriend going now! They are great! I have never been afraid of the dentist and I think that is in large part to Dr. Licking's comforting manner. The staff is friendly as well. I would recommend for sure!

Dr. Licking is the best and I'm not just saying that to say it. I have been going to him for years since I was small. His gentleness with working on your teeth and his kindness is amazing and he does an excellent job taking care of his patients. Not only does he make sure your teeth are doing okay and of course he checks for cavities, ;). But he also spends the time to talk to you and see how you are doing.
Patient and doctor interaction is very important and he does an excellent job! And the staff is amazing as well. Always there to greet you with a warm smile and friendly hello! Much thanks to him and his amazing loyal staff! :)

I have been going to Dr. Licking since I was baby as well as my parents. They are absolutely incredible, friendly, inviting, accommodating and all around fantastic. They make you excited to go to the dentist because your teeth look so good after! They use different methods for cavities and such that are wholistic and non painful. Dr licking is personable, chats with you, remembers things about you, and genuinely cares.
I will send my future children here. Besides the main doctor, their front desk woman Judy is so sweet, she has known me since I was younger and truly is family to me. She will go above and beyond what you need and has an amazing heart. Love you guys!

The best dental care I've ever had! Dr. Licking, Judy, George, Annie & Cindy need to be recognized as the best in the business. I've had lots of dental work over the years and Dr. Licking is the best! Even when there is an emergency and the office is closed, the doctor comes in to care for his patients! Excellent! The hygienists are great as well. Claudia is great!

Watch out for billing! I was told my procedure would be phased in order to comply with my insurance limit for the year. They went ahead and billed me for the entire procedure before the year was over and it cost me a fortune. They did give me a small "Courtesy" discount but I feel it was their billing error, and I should have only been charged for what I would have paid had they billed as we agreed.
I found this office to be evasive when it comes to billing with a 'money is no object' attitude toward procedures. It would be nice if when I visited they would tell me UP FRONT exactly what the day's procedure entails, HOW MUCH IT WILL COST ME, alternatives (including less expensive alternatives), and consequences of postponing. You may not make as much money in the short term, but in the long run you will build a loyal clientele.
