An estimated 75% of the U.S. population has experienced one or more signs or symptoms of TMJ Dysfunction (TMD). In fact, by the time a TMD or facial pain patient is referred to the TMJ & Facial Pain Institute for specialized TMJ treatment, he or she has been to an average of four practitioners! We understand how frustrating undiagnosed and unresolved orofacial pain can be to a patient.

Harold F. Menchel, DMD and his staff specialize in the conservative, non-surgical treatment of chronic facial pain disorders using a scientific, university-based team approach.
Services
Did you know that the average TMD or facial pain patient has been to at least four practitioners before being referred for specialized treatment to our office? The TMJ and Facial Pain Institute specializes in the conservative, non-surgical treatment of chronic facial pain using a scientific, university-based team approach.
TMJ is an abbreviation for the TemporoMandibular Joint that attaches our lower jaw to our skull. Many people, and even health care professionals, incorrectly use the term TMJ as a diagnosis of a disease. Even medical journals and insurance companies use the term "TMJ" as a diagnosis when it is not.
Part of our mission at the TMJ & Facial Pain Institute is to help educate our patients as well as the general public, much of the health care field, and third party payers about TMJ, TMD and facial pain in general. Our goal is to eliminate some of the confusion that exists about these health issues and how their treatments should make logical, scientific sense.
Dr. Harold Menchel has been speaking on the subjects of facial pain, TMD, occlusion, and sleep dentistry to dentists, physicians, dental students and the lay public both nationally and internationally for over 20 years. He has been featured on ABC News and Comcast Newsmakers. He approaches this topic from his experience as a "wet fingered restorative dentist" having treated restorative, TMD and facial pain patients for thirty-five years.

I left his office with complete confidence that my current on tmj issues were treatable and realistic. He is an expert definitely in this very difficult to explain and treat issue. I am looking Foward to achieving the pain free goals he has set up for me.
