At Bellevue Kids Dentist, we believe every child should be treated the way we would like our own children treated. It is our goal to implement the highest standard of care at every patient encounter whether it is a child's first visit to the dental office, a teenager who is headed off to college or a special-needs adult patient we've been seeing for decades.
This treatment approach is fundamental to creating and maintaining exceptional life-long oral health. Kids are special, unique, smart, fun, honest and creative, and you know what?

Dr. Dorothy Nelson attended UW and then attended the UW School of Dentistry shortly after and graduated in. Dr. Cody Mast attended Willamette University in Oregon, where he graduated with a German major and economics minor. Dr. Jenny Lee attended Andrews University in Michigan and continued her education in Loma Linda University for Dental.
Dr. Dorothy was a true angel to our rescue when she came to office after 7:30pm and did a two hr surgery for us especially on a day when she had busy family events. She has also followed up with us diligently to make sure that our daughter recovers well. Our family are truly grateful for having Dr. Dorothy.
Many parents will call and ask when their child should first see the dentist. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a child's first visit to the dentist should be no later than 6 months after the eruption of the first tooth. This is a relatively new concept in dentistry, but research has shown that an ounce of prevention will help prevent a pound of problems. Much of the infant dental visit is geared toward discussing what the parent can anticipate from their child's oral growth and development.
These are the "fillings" which go into the teeth once all of the decay is removed or a traumatized tooth is repaired. They are tooth-colored and are bonded to the prepared tooth surface. Silver fillings, or amalgam fillings, are only very rarely used in our office on a case-by-case basis. Different materials have different strengths and weaknesses, and for the overwhelming majority of the time, the tooth-colored fillings will work fine.

Dr. Dorothy and her dental assistant are absolutely wonderful. My 11 year old son has major anxiety about going to the dentist. What a relief (for both of us) that we had such a good experience. They were so great with him. They were sweet, patient, and professional through out the entire process. Dr. Dorothy is a wonderful dentist and wonderful with children.

Bellevue Kids Dentist worked hard to get us seen by Dr. Dorothy Nelson when our baby needed his lip, tongue, and buccal ties released. Lonnie at the front desk was very friendly and got us scheduled off the wait-list, and Dr. Dorothy is very kind, knowledgeable and skilled. We feel so lucky to have worked with them for our baby's releases and would highly recommend them to anybody looking for lip/tongue/buccal tie revisions for their newborns.

Do not allow your children to attend this office! We decided to switch offices after our long time dentist was often booked months in advance. With a tween and teenager who had never had any dentistry needs or cavities we felt confident that this office would be an acceptable option; considering so many in the area are not accepting new patients. However we went to the initial visit and were told our son's teeth were great and we should come back just to get sealants on the back molars.
When our 13 year old son attended this second appointment they ended up drilling his teeth, filling not present cavities and leaving him unable to eat for days from the braces in his mouth that left cuts on both the top and bottom gums. I immediately called our previous dentist to find out why they would fill cavities and if they had any notes from his last visit stating this might be needed.
They looked over his records and said absolutely not and that both our boys may have deep grooves in their teeth but with never having a cavity and the know family history (I also have deep grooves and no cavities) there was no need to fill any cavities, the $800 paid was just to collect money and not in our child's best interest. I cannot correct what they have done but please do not allow your child to come to this office. EVER!

My kids love the office, and I love Dr. Nelson. The staff is friendly, my kids enjoy checking out the fish in the aquarium, being able to watch a movie during the cleaning, and the "gold" coin with prize at the end. The hygienist and Dr. Nelson are gentle and skilled. Easy to recommend Dr. Nelson and Bellevue Kids Dentist to any parent.

The entire team at Bellevue Kids Dentist took such great care of my two girls. From the moment we walked in the door, the staff made my girls feel welcomed. Dr Nelson and her staff took the time to explain everything to my two girls and made sure they were comfortable. Dr Nelson took the time to look not just at their teeth but to also ask about their oral habits, diet, and sleep quality. She is really looking at the whole child and whole body health, not just focusing on the teeth. This is a great team and a great dentist!
