Updated! 03/25/22. Grand Dentistry STILL deserves the highest-rating for sure! Just got back from an appointment here and had to update my below review with some words about the visits that followed. Since then, I've been back for crowns, fillings and cleanings. Each time, everything consistently exceeded my already high expectations based on that first visit. Dr. Basso and his assistant Becky have a stellar way of making some pretty major dental work feel truly relaxed, chill and full-on pain free.
I've been a wimp about Novocain shots in the past; but Dr. Basso's shot was something I literally did not feel at all! For real. Even more importantly, all the dental work he's done for me has been absolutely stellar. Additionally, just as before, he and Becky made sure I was well informed concerning all the work and they were super responsive and flat-out all around great!
My second cleaning appointment was with Karen and she rocked it just as Sharon did before her! The front desk and the billing stuff? Zero surprises, clear explanations, kind and genuine -- every single time. I've written a lot here only because I am so fully floored and happy to finally have a dentist where everything clicks. OK-- this long-winded update ends.
My first appointment review is below. Gotta say I'm a bit dubious whenever I read a review as off-the-charts positive as the one I am about to write, but. this is all flat-out true! The fact is, I have never had as good an experience at the dentist as the one I had at Grand Dentistry last week. It was my first appointment with Dr. Basso and his amazing co-workers.
And it was the exact opposite of everything I had come to fear about dentists (not communicative enough, big on up-sells, rushed, etc). This place is 100% the inverse of that. My check-up was not only incredibly thorough and perfectly paced, I was able to ask questions and get clear and concise answers based on x-rays and pictures that were carefully explained to me. Dr. Basso is patient, easy to talk to and incredibly kind and chill.
The woman who took my x-rays before I saw Dr. Basso (sorry, I'm forgetting her name right now) was also great; totally personable and very thorough in her explanations and the detailed work she did. Additionally, Sharon, who did my initial cleaning-- was amazing as well-- and, again, everything was clear and upfront as far as her process goes and her work was outstanding.
But it didn't stop there! The front desk was stellar as well! I left with a full-on plan, appointments and pricing that I totally understood --and all of it was so non-stress and so efficient and so smooth -- that I am still in awe of the insanely professional and tight ship they run at Grand Dentistry. Feels so good to finally have great things to say about a dental appointment!

I saw their website and they seemed competent, kind, & friendly, so I decided to go to their office and try and make an appointment. The website said they opened at 7am on Fridays so I was there at 7:02am today (Friday) to fill out the paperwork and see if maybe i could be seen today, since i'm having a little tooth pain. Sadly, my experience was nothing like what the website had led me to believe.
The front desk lady looked at me when I walked in like i was there to rob her, and she a told me the office wasn't open yet. (I was wearing a mask the whole time, so her fear wasnt due to my being mask less-& I'm a 5'3" woman 125lbs so im not physically imposing by any means.). I told her the website said they opened at 7 and that it was after 7. (Plus the door was open, maybe she thought it was locked idk.).
I told her I could sit down and wait till she was ready to help me. She didn't offer to let me fill out paperwork. She didnt ask me what was going on or anything. It seemed like she resented my presence there. It was weird. If you don't like people maybe don't work at the front desk in a dental office? She said they normally didn't let people into the office without an appointment (i didn't ask her this but i wondered #1 why didn't the website say that and #2 why was the door open if that was the case?). i said i was there to fill out the paperwork and make an appointment. she said they didn't have any openings that day. i told her i had pain, because i do, & because at some dental offices they'll try to help anyone having pain to be seen more quickly. she said "im sorry.". she didn't seem sorry.
She didn't offer me any referrals either, which made me sad. Why not tell me about other dentists in the area who work with urgent or emergent cases who might be able to help me, especially given that i have pain? Don't come here unless you know and can follow all their un-communicatedrules. They are NOT kind to walk-ins, even walk-ins who are having dental pain and who need help (my regular dentist is in central San Diego, but I cant get down there to see him easily because of my work schedule).
Don't believe the website, this place is heartless (maybe they're kind, sensitive and caring with their established patients, i don't know). I'm gonna look for a dental office in Escondido where the people care IRL, not just in words on the website.

As a person who hates going to the dentist, I have to say that I'm very happy with my experiences at Grand Dentistry. The words root canal doesn't make me cringe any more, haha. Dr. Basso did an extraordinary job of ensuring I was comfortable, and not feeling pain. The office staff took a lot of time to review my insurance coverage and payment options. Highly recommend.

I have been dentist hopping for 6 years. My family dentist of 25 years had retired, leaving me without a dentist I could trust. 4 dentists later, I found Grand Dentistry. My extreme dental anxiety found a calming place to receive excellent dental care. I feel like I am coming home when I walk in their door.

I love this office! I recently moved to Escondido and was looking for a new dentist closer to home. I'm currently seeing Dr. Golshan, and she is so friendly! Everyone in the office was welcoming. The space is very clean, and I like that they have TVs in the ceiling for you to watch while you get your cleaning done.

Dr. Charles Basso of Grand Dentistry, Escondido, CA is a very skilled, compassionate and an extremely good communicator type of Dentist. My first appointment with Dr Basso as a new patient was actually a cleaning appointment. The first thing he did which none of my previous dentists had done (after all the x-rays had been taken) was to examine my mouth for oral cancer.
I think that my previous Dentists have done this as well. However, none of them explained what they were doing and why. Dr. Basso had explained how a Dentist can identify early signs of oral cancer aside from just pointing out which tooth is a problem. He also had me open and close my mouth and had identified that my TMJ is on the left jaw. My other general dentists did not do that as well.
The Staff Dental Hygienist who was assigned to perform the actual teeth cleaning was Sonia. She did a superb job! My second appointment with Dr. Basso is when he when I met with him so he can make an impression for my crown after I had an implant. I asked him to explain what is an abutment and an abutment custom post. He explained them thoroughly.
Of course, as an Auditor I double checked his explanation by going online and reading on it. He explained them correctly! He also took scans of my upper and lower teeth for my crown to make to make sure that my crown will fit perfectly. I did not have to bite on a gooey, uncomfortably putty for several minutes to have a physical dental impression.
My third appointment with Dr. Basso was when he installed the crown that was created from a digital impression. Overall the installation went very well. I am impressed with the appearance and fit of my crown! Dr Basso's staff are also very friendly and accommodating. I like all of them! I have started referring Dr. Basso first to my husband and then to friends who are need of an excellent Dentist. Thank you Dr. Basso and Staff! Mercy H

Dr. Basso & his team are the most skilled compassionate people I've met in the world of Dentistry. I come from the old school of dentists who would when I was a child tie your arms to chair for better control. I have neglected my teeth for decades until meeting these wonderful folks. If you need a Dentist this is The Place you will need to visit. Thank you again Dr. for not only being a Magician at the Art of Dentistry while at same time being kind & understanding as well. Cannot say Thank you enough Mike Sirota

My first experience with the office and the dentist was great! The receptionists are very welcoming and professional. The office was very clean, with free coffee and tea, and a children's section with 2 iPads for the kiddos to play with. The dentist, Dr. Basso, is the best dentist I've ever had. He was very kind and extremely transparent, during my initial exam, and the initial stages of getting a crown put on one of my teeth.
He laid out the options and gave insight on each, making me feel informed and confident in making dental decisions. I highly recommend the office, as they run their business, exactly how a dental office should be ran. Kudos to the Grand Dentistry staff for making a veteran feel welcomed.

This is the nicest dentist office I've ever been to! The staff is kind, courteous and professional! The waiting room has refreshments for your comfort while you wait! The staff goes above and beyond to ensure your dental experience is as comfortable as it can be. Our dad is a World War II veteran and they sure do treat their veterans right!

Dr Bonar and all the staff are a great team. I trust Dr Bonar as she is inclusive and sharing of her extensive knowledge. I feel in good hands for my long term dental care. Recently she replaced a ceramic crown (from a past dentist) and gave me a gold crown. This is the last molar. And since it is in a tight spot the thinner material will work much better than the ceramic. The office has been updated and the waiting room is comfortable. Good to have a great dentist!

On Jan 27, 2018 the wonderful Dental Professionals & Staff at Grand Dentistry in Escondido opened its doors to serve and give back to the Veterans of the 2nd Annual North County Veteran Stand Down. Grand Dentistry served over 20+ Veterans with much needed cleanings, extractions, and dental surgeries at No Cost to the Veterans served! As a Volunteer Liaison for the North County Stand Down, I observed: -Warm customer service -A welcoming reception area -Friendly professionals -Timely Service All delivered with Dignity & Respect.
Each Veteran seen walked out with a positive experience. This left such a great impression on me that I scheduled dental appointments for my family that very day. Thank you Grand Dentistry for serving our Veterans of the North County Stand Down. After seeing how you treated our Veterans, I have faith that you will deliver the same care for my Family.
