Services
Dr. Maikon grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and completed a dental residency at the VA Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Maikon joined Dr. David Wolf and was Downtown Dental Associates for several years before moving to her current location and becoming Family SmileCare Center, PLC.
Kim is a graduate of Benton Community High School and Kirkwood Community College. Kim's smile and voice are familiar to many patients. In addition to deciphering insurance coverage and benefits, she works to manage billing and patient accounts. She also keeps all of our computers fully functional and tackles undercover plumbing and maintenance.
Dr Maikon is very knowledgeable and extremely competent in translating necessary procedures into layman's terms. Dr. Maikon is quite approachable and never makes you feel like her 'degree' puts her above you; a quality too often displayed by other doctors and dentists. The support members are fabulous.

I was very disappointed that Dr. Maiken spent maybe a minute with me. The dental hygienist spent an hour - quite chatty, but when Dr. Maiken came in, she skimmed over my teeth, said I had great teeth and was out of there. This happens each time I go. I don't think I've spent more than 5 minutes with her - ever. It seems a shame. She's getting paid quite a lot for maybe one minute of her time. The dental hygienist was and always is quite thorough.

I used to hate going to the dentist. I always said I would rather have a root canal over a cleaning. But now I don't say that and don't walk out with my mouth hurting and gums tore up. Love these ladies. They are the best. Your at ease, they are patient, they make sure you understand what's going on and what the plan of action is. I highly recommend.

My wife was a patient here for 10 years. After a billing snafu with the dental plan not being in network we tried to work out a payment plan with the billing specialist Kim. She was extremely rude and cut me off a half dozen times and told us they didn't need our business. It seems like a fine place to get work done but don't ever have a billing problem with them, at least until Kim retires or gets fired.
The rest of the staff seem pleasant, but it only takes one person to put a bad taste in your mouth. My wife will gladly switch to my dentists who works with patients on payment plans. And we aren't dead beats looking for a way out, we just got blindsided by a bill that we thought was covered.
