Thank you to Dina for being such a wonderful, experienced, and gentle hygenist.

My comfort is their priority. My exams included a free cancer screening for my tongue. The Dr. Is calm and gentle checking my gums. I appreciate the kindness from the office manager Lana, the years of being part of the community shows. If your looking for a hometown dentist for your family to grow with, I recommend Dr. Michael Shulkin, DDS.

The team at Moody Street Dental somehow makes a visit to the dentist actually pleasant. They are warm and welcoming in general, and when it came to the work they were incredibly gentle, very informative, always presented options, and talked through them with me. I honestly had a few things done - fillings, a deep clean - that I thought would have to be a bit painful, and they really weren't! Highly recommend! Overall, I trusted them to provide topnotch reliable care with great "chair-side" manner.

I had been going to a dentist in Newton and he kept pushing me to do procedures that I wasn't comfortable with so I decided to try find somewhere closer to home. They are really very kind and welcoming. I am probably one of the most difficult patients because I'm a baby when it comes to anything really haha. But they literally hold your hand through any procedure you may need.
I have to be numbed about three times to even be able to tolerate it. I'm still numb writing this review! A crown that should take probably about 30 min took 2 hours because I needed extra care. I really recommend them if you are like me and don't like going to the dentist (who does)

Unfortunate experience. Went to the office multiple times, second time to get a few fillings done which was all I wanted, just to be referred to a different dentist for a retreatment and crown. Was charged out of my insurance 2 times just to sit in a chair and be told to go somewhere else. While they were saying I should save my insurance for the bigger work that needed to be done.
Then when I went to "Premier Endodontics" where I was referred by Moody st Dental, I was then charged over $700 and they were not able to help me before the end of the year when my insurance renewed so it was 100% a waste of money and time. I am not a person to leave bad reviews but have had enough of dentist and practices taking advantage of people and their insurance. Just be careful and make sure you are clear what you want and need done it was partly my fault to let myself be manipulated multiple to times.

Moody dental has been my preferred dentist for almost 10 years. The care that Dr Shulkin and his team provide have been wonderful and have really inspired me to take care of my oral health. Visiting any office during these times makes me uncomfortable, but they are very good with hygiene and with making patients feel comfortable. I highly recommend them for anybody that lives near Waltham!

I had a wonderful experience here! The dental assistant was super friendly and careful with me when taking pics for X-ray of my teeth. The dentist was extremely personable and friendly, made conversation with me, and was very careful and didn't hurt my teeth at all. He also noticed when I got nervous and stopped to talk to me and made me feel more calm. Would definitely recommend to a friend!

Moody Street Dental is by far the best dental experience I've ever had. When I've gone to other places I've dreaded cleanings because they are painful. At Moody Street Dental, the experience was just the opposite. The cleaning was not painful at all, and was actually somewhat relaxing. My wife and I have also had fillings, root canals, and extractions done here that all went just as smooth. I highly recommend using this location.

Such a great experience at Moody Street Dental! It's been some time since I've been in a dentist's office, and so I was pretty nervous about going. Dr Shulkin and Lana were amazing at calming my fears - they provided super friendly and professional service. Is it strange to say I'm looking forward to going back? Lol!

Not happy with the customer service. I've been dealing with a cavity that's about the size of my tooth I have been in Constant pain and haven't had a day off to be able to get it taken care of. So I scheduled an appointment today about an hour before 4 I show up 15 minutes early with no one to great me just an empty office. It seemed like there was one person working the (dentist)sounded like someone was getting worked on in the back.
So I go and look at my phone and I see I got an email in my spam folder saying the 5 minutes it took me to scheduled the appointment someone had took my spot. Why don't thing have a spot on hold while you are finalizing the appointment like ticket master or any other online sale procedure. As this was my first day off in 3 weeks and I will not be sure when the next one will be.
A phone call would have been nice. I don't think I'll reschedule for fear of having it canceled again. I've started to look elsewhere and would not recommend this place to anyone do to their lack of Communication and how the online scheduling works

Dr. Shulkin is truly an exceptional dentist and extraordinary person. I was in the most excruciating pain and didn't know what to do. I had an oral surgery emergency and called his office at 3 pm without any patient history, his office told me to come in and he would help. I was in by 4:30 and out by 5 pm with no more pain. I needed to get my long overdue, severely decayed tooth extracted and he whipped into action.
Not only did he perform the surgery expeditiously, he did so with warmth, compassion and the utmost professionalism. I can't thank Dr. Shulkin enough and hold him in the highest regard.

Dr. Shulkin has been taking care of me and my wife for over 10 years. Initially I started going here because I lived nearby. But I have since then moved away about 40 miles out to Worcester. But I still come here for all my dental work. This is a nice Family practice. And the Shulkins are good people.

I have been visiting moody street dental for around 7 years. Dr. Shulkin's team has proven to be very professional and knowledgeable. I've had extensive and great quality dental work done at his office: from cleanings to fillings to crowns to implants. Almost anything you can throw at them - they can handle. The team has done a great job addressing my dental issues. Also, Dr. Shulkin's office works closely with a variety of other top notch dental professionals in the Boston area (for certain items like gum surgeries or root canals they either have dental surgeon come in to the office or refer you to another high quality local dental specialist, so you don't have to spend time looking for one - which is very convenient!). I highly recommend giving Moody Street Dental a visit if you are looking for great quality local dental office!

I feel that I can trust Dr Shulkin and his staff with my family's dental care because they take the time to know us. Me and my family are not just another customer to them. I especially like that he isn't part of any conglomerate dental practice. Their prices are very reasonable and they will work with any dental insurance. They have been very flexible when I have had to reschedule and always try to fit you in. I won't just trust anyone with my or my family's teeth. If your teeth are healthy, so aren't you! Thank you Dr Shulkin and Lana!

IF I COULD GIVE NO STARS I WOULD! Went to Moody Street dental and will never go back! After my first cleaning I was asked to come back the following week to look for cavities and pockets that can cause gum disease. For the cavity check he took pictures, put this little sensor on my teeth that would beep if there was a cavity (he said I had at least ten but wouldn't know how deep they were till they drilled them) Then he did the pocket test and told me I was the one of the worst cases he's seen.
He informed me I needed $1500 worth of work done (between cavities and a deep gum cleaning) and my insurance wouldn't cover it. I told him I needed to think about it and he said what is there to think about and asked me how my credit was! He told me that I could spread the disease to my fiance and used massive scare tactics to get to me. (FACT YOU CAN'T SPREAD GUM DISEASE) I was scared but that night I calmed down and resolved to get a second opinion. I'm so glad I did!
I had no cavities (the second dentist just looked in my mouth and could tell I didn't have cavities) and the pockets were because my gums were in shock from the cleaning he had done. Dentist number two recommended another cleaning and a water pic. And everything is fine! She actually compliments how beautiful my teeth are, which if I failed to mention Moody Street dental told me my teeth were crooked I would need to straighten them and whiten them at some point.
If you like a dentist with gadgets and who will probably make your teeth sensitive and messed up, then go here. If you don't, go ANYWHERE else! Anywhere else is better than this place!

Dr. Shulkin runs a small operation off of Moody St in Waltham. He does cleanings himself and has a partner oral surgeon who comes in on some days. He is very nice but a bit of dry humor. It sounds like he likes to push the deep-cleaning/scaling procedure on his patients. After not going to the dentist for some years, he had good reason to request the procedure for me.
It was bit expensive (about a grand after insurance covered a bit). but I think it has definitely helped out my oral health. My gums have noticeably grown back after a couple months. Some people get upset when expensive treatments are requested, but in the end, you probably don't want to cheap out on your dental health. I think Dr. Shulkin is honest/unapologetic and tries to offer the best care to his patients - other dentists try to make you like them by telling you your teeth look great and that you're doing everything right. It's all in who you want to trust.

I was seen at Moody Street Dental this morning for some teeth sensitivity due to cracked molars. I have a dentist I see reguarly in Boston that does a wonderful job but I wanted a second opinion on a price he recently quoted me for my cracked molars. I explained this to the dentist at Moody Street when he asked me if I had a regular dentist. This dentist did not smile once at me and acted as though I was wasting his time.
He refused to do an x-ray and merely put a scope in my mouth that took pictures to be displayed on the office screen. Then he told me I should go back to my regular dentist and ask him what other options there were. Really?. Isnt' that why I am getting a second opinion from YOU?. He did not quote me any prices or explain what his approach would be to my molar issues.
I politely got out of the seat, thanked him for his time, and walked out the office. He said nothing to me as I left. This visit, which I took time off of work to come to, was a complete waste of time. Are they trying to lose business?.

DO NOT GO HERE. I told them I had a piece of my tooth missing and asked what they thought I needed. After a x-ray they told me what I already told them plus told me I'd need $3,000 worth of work. Then they charged my insurance an over whelming amount that left me with a balance. Never have I been to a dentist for a simple check up and come out with a bill. I repeat DO NOT GO HERE.

Follow up: I had to see another dentist because the sensitivity was so bad in one of my refilled teeth. He made an adjustment and has me using sensitivity toothpaste. If that doesn't work he's going to try to replace my BRAND NEW filling. Worse comes to worse root canal. All this after having no problems or pain before visiting Moody Street Dental.

I chose to visit these guys because they are close to my work and I can take time off at lunch. I missed the first two appointments because the front desk lady did not call me as she said she would as a reminder. She was unhappy when I brought up this fact I got a basic cleaning and xrays. To my surprise, the insurance bill was over $400. The insurance only covered $250 of the requested amount, still costing me nothing, but it seemed to me that they were trying to get as much money as possible out of the insurance.
For someone who only has $1000/yr of coverage, I was a bit worried, but figured maybe it was normal. Dr. Shulkin was really pushing me to replace my front teeth fillings with crowns, a completely cosmetic operation, as the fillings are holding just fine but have a few small chips in them. Seems like they want to make more money than they want to offer sound advice.
I also needed two fillings and my insurance covers 100% of amalgam fillings for back teeth. However, they don't do amalgam fillings. They claim it is unsafe to put metal in your mouth because when you eat you will swallow bits of the metal?! Sure, putting metal in your mouth can't be the best for your body, but The National Institutes of Health, the U.S.
Public Health Service, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization, and the ADA have certified amalgam fillings as safe. The composite fillings are only covered 60% and cost more, and they refuse to do them. Now I have to pay $25 to get a copy of the xrays to take them to another dentist. Not a happy customer.

The first time i visited for a cleaning, the dentist Dr. Shulkin measured all the gaps & pockets between my teeth. He noted that many gaps were 4's and 5's (the worst and widest space between teeth and gums). Before i could ask what this way (I'd never had this done before), he sullenly put on a video about periodontal disease and plaque under the gums.
Which got me scared and nervous. so i made my next appointment for a root scaling. This is a very invasive treatment, to dig under the gums to get plaque out. It wasn't until later on that i realized that flossing and proper care could help heal this spaces. Anyway, the claim for my dental insurance came back denying coverage. The dental office said they did not know why, and that I was welcome to come in and talk about financing.
Each 'quadrant' or gap was $125! I said that i would consider it. A few months passed and i decided to call Metlife and see why this preventative care was not covered. Turns out that their periodontists took a look at the charts sent in and determined there were only two 4 and 5 spaced gaps. That was it! The scaling was totally unnecessary.
Oh yea did i mention this dentist also tried to sell me on whitening procedures and the whole bag? Probably saw that I had good insurance. The new place I found is 1000 times better and I could not be happier. Moody St Dental is not a good place to go. Also Dr. Shulkin is mega creepy and awkward.

UPDATE 9/4/2008 - After deciding that I wanted to get veneers, and not wanting to do it with a dentist that wasn't a certified cosmetic dentist, I found one in Worcester that I really liked. Over the process, they became my primary dentist. I have now had two usual cleanings with them as well, and it turns out I don't have periodontal disease.
After reading Sarah R's review, (she actually private messaged me wondering how I get around Massachusetts so much, haha, I'm a recent college grad and have moved a lot) I decided to put this up. I think it's important that people know. I don't want to say that these dentists are running a shady business, but perhaps they weren't trained well.
I spent a good amount of money getting these invasive procedures - scalings?- that apparently were not necessary. Thanks for nothing, Moody Street Dental. Oh, and when I tried to cancel, the dentist got upset with me - I felt like I was breaking up with a boyfriend. Not very professional. _______________________________________________ Sitting in a chair with your mouth stretching open is never comfortable.
I h-a-t-e going to the dentist's office. But it's necessary, and I don't want my teeth to fall out, so I go. I recently switched over from my pediatric dentist. I found Moody Street Dental by doing some quick online research. A short phone call and I had my appointment. I give this dentistry five stars because all of the claims on their Website are true--they treat me like family, they constantly checked to make sure I wasn't in too much pain during an invasive teeth cleaning, and were just generally nice people.
But what I'm most impressed with is how smart they are about what they do. That's really all I need to say. The workers are kind and create a friendly atmosphere--I think I've laughed about something every time I've been there. And they're smart about teeth. What more could you possibly want in a dentist? I recommend it. They have new patient specials for anyone looking -- $69 for first visit, including up to four x-rays, gum disease screening, and cleaning (normally $139).
They also offer a whitening special for new customers -- $199 for new customers, normally $450. **Their Website is a lil funky but if you google it, you'll be able to get to the rest of their pages.**
