Dishonest Clinic - Incorrect Approach I am very disappointed with the experience that I had today coming to the clinic. Yesterday I got a call from the clinic about my due date to get my tooth clean. They had an appointment available for today, which I scheduled for it. I asked the secretary on the phone about how much I would pay for this visit, and she informed me that I would only pay for the insurance co-pay for the visit.
She did not informed me anything about my dental insurance had expired in 8 days (I found out on the clinic today, after the whole situation). Today, when I arrived at the clinic, Maria hosted me very well, but also did not mention anything about my insurance had expired. She directed me to the chair where I would be taking my X-rays before my appointment with Dra. Elenir.
After the assistant take the X-Rays, Maria informed me that my insurance had expired and if I would like to do the treatment, I would pay for the full cover of the visit treatment done today, which would be around $375 or I could chose to do not do it. They did not mentioned/offered me to renew the insurance. So, basically pay for the full amount or leave.
I chose to leave, and when I approached the front desk, Maria informed me that I had to pay $50 for the visit + $95 for the X-Rays that Dra. Elenir not even checked. Therefore, I disagreed with them about paying for the visit, since I did not see the dentist neither used any material besides for the X-Rays. I agreed to pay for the X-Rays, although I think I should not, since was a complete miscommunication from the clinic to me, which Maria agreed about that. Dra Elenir not even came to talk to me about the miscommunication or for apologies. Because of the incorrect approach of the clinic regarding to the whole situation, I will never go back neither recommend the clinic.

Dr. Matthias is a good dentist. However the office staff is very unprofessional. Two years ago I received $400 surprises bill. I paid it and had to talk to them about it. This year I received another $400 surprise bill. All I wanted was to clarify with my insurance before my visits, which is a standard procedure. I switched to another dentist.

The staff here is very nice, but the dentist is pretty rough with her dental work (and I am not generally too sensitive to that sort of thing). My mouth would ache for days, sometimes weeks after my appointments with her so I decided to go elsewhere. I called three times to request my dental records (one time of which the dentist took the phone demanding to know why I changed dentists). Sixth months later, as far as I know my new dentist has still yet to get my records. Guess I shouldn't hold my breath.

Find another dentist - the one that cares about his/her patient. Dr Bernardes refused to see me and cancelled my appointment because I requested an estimate for the dental work in writing instead of a verbal quote. I had an oral surgery scheduled to take place 3 days after the scheduled visit with Dr. Bernardes. Since she refused to see me I had to postpone my surgery.
As a cancer patient I had to stop my cancer treatment in order to have the surgery. The delay in surgery caused by Dr. Bernardes has put my health at risk. This behavior is highly unethical and I intend to contact the American Dental Association as well as the Maryland Office of Consumer Protection to report this incident.
