Mertes Pediatric Dentistry

We had a surgery at Akron childrens planned for my daughter to get crowns and fillings. The dental work that was planned was from an xray Dr. MERTES TOOK IN HIS OFFICE. The surgery coordinator didn't Call with the quotes she told us she would call with. I had to call them multiple times regarding what we would be responsible for. The day before my daughter's procedure the office called and gave an overview of what we discussed in the visit.

During that same phone call the office said that we would have to sign a consent form allowing Dr. Mertes to extract teeth if need be. I advised I was not ok with that considering it was not something that showed to be an issue on the x-rays they took. I informed the office that I would not sign a consent for that to happen, they said Dr. Mertes would talk to us about it at the hospital. Knowing we were not ok with it, they should have cancelled the procedure if it was going to be an issue for them prior to surgery.

The next day we took our daughter to Akron Childrens and of course she was anxious bc it was dental work and she is 4. Prior to surgery Dr. MERTES SAID IF if didn't sign the form he wouldn't be able to do the surgery. This should have been told to me the prior day before we took our daughter into the hospital and had her upset. We went ahead with the procedure bc she was already worked up about being there and I didn't want her to have to go through the process again from start with a different dentist. Had it not been for her already being there at Akron Childrens we would not have used Dr. MERTES.

After this we will not go to his office and will not be recommending their office to anyone who wants to have a say over work performed on their child prior to it being done while under anesthesia. Reply- in regards to your response to this post.***** if you are referring to the times multiple times I had to call and sit on hold for over 45 min, twice while you guys tried to figure out if the surgery coordinator ran our insurance ( should have been done prior to 5 business days before surgery) then yes but I also had to sit on hold for those " hours you worked on our case" very unprofessional, rushy, rude, pushy, just a horrible experience all around. The way this office conducts business and behaves is astounding. Do not sell your family short of better care go somewhere else.

I love Dr Greg Mertes. My daughter had a bad experience with a dentist when she was 13 and did her own resetting find Greg Mertes. She was not disappointed. My son started going to Greg at age 2. The same time my daughter started. They both love him. He is a Dad and works well with kids. My son is now 12 and has no fears of the dentist. My daughter was disappointed that when she turned 18 she had to find a new dentist. I highly recommended this place. All the staff is friendly and wonderful.

My child had her first appointment today. The staff was very kind and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back!

This dentist is awesome! My son had to have a ton of work done- and Dr Mertes did a phenomenal job! He went down to Akron Childrens and performed his procedure, and handled everything with so much care and love. The staff in this office is so loving, and so incredible with children as well. I recommend this place to everyone. Thank you Dr. Mertes for being such an incredible and loving Dr.

Chance had his first cavities and they did a great job making sure to take care of everything for him! It was a easy experience for him & they always make sure to make the kids comfortable! Thanks for all you do!

Such a wonderful experience for the children, the atmosphere is so delightful. Shawano and Dr Kelsey treated my son as if he was somebody special (which he is). Thank you so much!

The hygienist who helped with my 5 year olds first filling was so kind and made him feel so comfortable. The dentist works quickly and explains what's happening as things move along. My son loved the movie during his procedure and they really do a great job of explaining to my son what's going to happen, in child friendly but direct terms, and then asking my son if it's ok if they (touch his mouth, take his temp, put the xray bib on etc) so he never felt like he didn't have control of his body.

Everyone was so friendly and made my antsy 2 year old feel at ease! Quick and easy and were very respectful of my special requests :

Time and time again they are GREAT with the kids. My son was so nervous until he got there and they helped calm him down and talked him through everything.

Everyone here does great work and are amazing with kids. Very highly recommended!

The doctors and staff are super nice and kid oriented! Also the office itself is so cute and ocean themed, the kids love it!

Today was our first visit. The entire staff was wonderful! Super inviting for parents and siblings too which I really appreciated. Katie the hygienist was SO sweet and did an awesome job cleaning and explaining. Dr. Kelsey was also thorough, informative and so kind. Dr. Mertes came and introduced himself and asked questions to get to know us since we didn't see him this visit. 100% would recommend.

I took my 3 year old son yesterday for his 1st visit. Everyone is awesome and so nice! He loved it!

Our first visit was pretty good. Not sure if I like having all the dentist chairs out in the open like they do. It was kind of hard to hear when any of the assistants or the dentist was talking because there were people at all the chairs. It was quite busy. And of course they were also trying to talk through masks, so that didn't help. But overall, it was a good visit. The people were nice and treated my kid well. We'll be going here until she can go to the same place I go.

We are new to Mertes Dentistry and will forever go back! We are an hour away and it was worth the trip! Everyone was so friendly, everything was clean, and they were very respectful of my concerns with my kids! Also the whole place is just adorable! My 5 year old is excited to go back

We highly recommend Dr. Mertes. He has been so helpful- especially with our son. Our son has Autism and benefits from the use of the more private exam rooms. The environment is calming and the staff are all very pleasant -making his experience a success. Dr. Mertes was also very planful with our son's needs, by removing teeth when he was young and allowing more space for his adult teeth to come in--in anticipation that braces would not be an option most likely. Our son has an amazing smile and has straight teeth to make it all the better!

Total Misrepresentation. I wish there were negative star options. My son was complaining about one tooth but they recommended that he needs work on 4 teeth. We asked "How much it was gonna cost". They said $3434.00. They asked to pay upfront before the surgery since we found out that my insurance is only going to cover only IV sedation. I told them that I can't pay this right now and had to wait for money to come in due to COVID and I wasn't working.

We went to another dentist near our home for second opinion and they came up with $4700 plus estimate. So we came back and agreed to pay upfront and had surgery done at Akron children's hospital. I thought we were done, only to see another bill for $6350 plus and my insurance already paid over $6000.00 in claim from Akron Children's hospital.

They totally fail to tell us the real costs. Who in their right mind would agree to spend over $15000.00 for dental surgery. They knowingly kept us in dark. Now they are saying I signed agreement. Tell me.when someone ask you for a quote. Do they mean leave half the things outside for them to figure out. If you reading this "Mertes Pediatric Dentistry". I am not paying a penny for that, and not done with you yet.

My kids & I had a pleasant experience coming back to Mertes Pediatric Dentistry on the first day of reopening on May 4, 2020 since the COVID-19 pandemic Ohio shutdown. The office was professional and very sanitary and the changes that were made are for our health benefit and yours. Thank you!

We loved Dr Mertes. Knowledgeable, competent and compassionate. The front desk staff are simply rude. After 15 plus years I opted out of a last pediatric appointment for my son and transferred to our family dentist as an adult patient. I chose to make the transition positive! The staff reflects the complete opposite of the Doctor.

Would not recommend. Years ago my daughter needed oral surgery and he handed it off to someone else the day of the surgery, I was informed when we got there but there was no explanation. Thankfully everything turned out well. My son had an existing appointment that was cancelled the day before and "couldn't" be rescheduled for over a month even though he'd been in the ER over the weekend after damaging his front teeth in a fall.

All the receptionist could say was "Yeah, that's the best we can do." Clearly they don't care about the well being of any other their patients. Apparently there is only one location and they are only open one day a week, I don't know how they are still open. I guess it's great if you're just going for a check up and can schedule months in advance but honestly he's not magical and it's not worth it. I called my own dentist and was able to schedule the next day.

Dr Mertes is a decent dentist, but the receptionist staff is very cold. For example I was asked to sign to provide consent for laughing gas with no explanation. I am also asked to pay up front, which I never do elsUsually my wife brings my daughters but on the occasions where I do I always tell myself I need to find a new dentist.

At first when scheduling my daughters dental appt I was under the impression I was scheduling for downtown akron children's hospital and upon my confirmation of the appt I was informed they are located in Hudson. ( Apparently at one time they did have a location downtown but that has since closed ). I was hesitant to make the 30 minute drive to Hudson but I was assured that the dentist had experience with uncooperative kids ( my daughter is 3 ) but I did make the drive and it was well worth it! Katie the hygienist was very nice, very kid friendly, understanding and cooperative during the entire cleaning ( which lasted abt 15-20 minutes ) even though my daughter was being uncooperative as possible.

But she never once missed a beat. The dentist was amazing! He was also very thorough and very informative. He answered all my questions as well as made suggestions to make teeth brushing easier. I am so pleased with this experience that I will make the drive in 6 months and go back. Just an overall great experience.

I can not say anything bad! Appointment only and a huge parking lot. Very friendly and informative staff. I have never had to wait long.
