We believe in conservative treatment and the focus is on prevention of disease. If you have had the experience of suddenly needing a root canal although you saw your dentist regularly, you would appreciate this. We treat cavities and tooth decay before they turn into major issues such as root canals and crownns. We try to save your natural teeth instead of fitting you with dentures. We believe stress in modern life is playing a major role and we find ways to prevent the damage that this can cause to your teeth.

New dentist! Seems to be nice but I'm not sure she can do all the work that need to be done. So I have to go to another dentist to do what she can't do there!

This place is okay. The lady at the front desk always has an attitude. Unfortunately they are my only option that accepts my insurance. I don't believe that they do a thorough job though. I came here after seeing another dentist for 3 years closer to home. They mentioned and referred me to get a gum graft and frenectomy done. This dentist didn't even notice the issue. Leaving my previous dentist, I was told I had some small cavities starting between my molars about a year ago.

I have sensitivity, which is why I decided it was finally time to come to this place. They denied I had any cavities. They called to reschedule my first appointment, though I knew to expect this because they had previously done the same to my husband multiple times. They don't have you see the dentist during your cleaning so that they can bring you back for another appointment and collect on another office visit. They try to sell you everything because "your insurance covers it." If you can afford to go elsewhere, do it.

I was told that my insurance company wouldn't cover a office visit when I was in pain from gum sensitivity. I paid the $85 office visit, the recommended $585 night guard and a $25 fluids paste. $695 total. I never received an itemized bill. I called my dental insurance company and they said the dental office never submitted the $85 office charge, $585 night guard or the $25 fluoride but the did receive a bill for the X-rays. Ameritas (my insurance company) said they need to submit the $85 office visit charge because I shouldn't of had to pay the full amount and they need to submit the $585 night guard along with the $25 fluoride.

I had Ameritas on one phone and the dental office on another phone (they weren't happy about this) and Ameritas has a reference #2774. The dental office did submit the $85 charge and they received $31 also. That is a total of $85 plus $31 and the maximum amount they can charge is $44! I was also told that I should get a 20% discount on the $585 night guard since they are in network.

This amount would be $117 (20% of $585). Since they can only charge $44 for the office visit and I paid $85 and Ameritas paid $31 I should get a refund of $72. I called and the office manager said "do you really want to go there " when I told him I want a refund or I would call Ameritas and the BBB. He wrote on another review that I was "harassing the office staff".

I haven't received any money yet and I called 2 days ago that I am asking for a full refund for the night guard also since it is causing sores on the top of my mouth. I have spoken to the dental association and filing a complaint and working w the BBB

Very condescending dentist. I've since found a new dentist and despite paying for my records to be transferred, they failed to send anything useful to my new dentist. The office manager is never available and incompetent.

I'll try to keep it brief and to the point. After your appointment, the business manager will swipe your credit card and balk at giving you an invoice describing services rendered. Although Cayuga Family Dental is "in-network" with the Cornell Program for Healthy Living, they prefer to charge you directly rather than bill insurance so that they can squeeze more out of you than the fee negotiated with the insurer (i.e., MetLife).

Don't say I didn't warn you. Stay as far away as possible. It is much better to go to an out-of-network provider and take the trouble to file insurance claims yourself than to work with this provider who refuses to bill insurance if they can get more out of you. And yes: they are eager to perform as many procedures on you as you'll let them. Shameful.

I legit had the best experience I have ever had at the dentist. I needed several cavities addressed. I have always been nervous. The dentist did not use numbing agent, and filled several of my cavities with no pain. I am no longer afraid to go to the dentist! Wonderful dentist, wonderful staff.

Beware, this dentist has illegal and dangerous business practices. You can't tell because she has recently gotten a lot of her worst (can you imagine there are worse reviews than what is still visible here?) reviews removed but she's hurting people, overcharging people, stealing from people and generally treating folks like crap. Save yourself money and grief and go elsewhere.

I don't recommend this practice. Every time we have an appointment they call us to reschedule. The last time I was at the practice my kids were not able to see a dentist. I requested that the next appt. my kids see a dentist in addition to get a cleaning with a hygienist, etc. The person on the phone could not guarantee a time when there would be a dentist there upon a reschedule date.

I don't get it- it's covid times and this is covered under child health plus. Oh and one more thing- they tried to sell their gimmicky toothpaste that "prevents cavities." I am not a fan and do not recommend. It's all just a really weird way to run a business.

Really bad/ unethical service! I had the worst experience at Cayuga Family Dental. These people take advantage of those who cannot afford to go to a good dentist, like patients on medicaid. This dentist drilled and filled a healthy tooth. I didn't even know that she had done this until later in the evening when I opened my mouth to brush my teeth and discovered all of my premolars had grey fillings!

I was shaking at the realization of what had happened. I went in the next day to complain she claimed she could only fill the one with a cavity if the one in front of it was also drilled. What nonsense is this?!?! I have never heard of such a thing. Beware, if you have medicaid, she will insist that you do all sorts of procedures that you don't need, "oh your insurance will pay for it, take advantage of it". Better to find another dentist.

The worse dentist experience in my 40 plus years. Rude unprofessional receptionist, the dentist discuss prices when you are in the chair thinking you are covered by insurance. The use COVID as an excuse to give mediocre cleaning and service, if you refuse or object to the high priced service offered they are upset and vindictive.

Terrible dentist! She filled some cavities, then dropped me as a patient because I didn't like her pricing for a permanent crown. I made the "mistake" of shopping around for other dentists whose prices and quality of care were much better. One of my fillings promptly fell out. By the time another dentist was taking patients, the tooth had deteriorated to the point that I had to have the tooth pulled. If you want a stern and haughty dentist, she is the one for you. Incompetence abounds at Cayuga Family Dental.

Went there a few months ago as a new patient. They said i needed 4 fillings and 2 crowns. That was weird since my last checkup from previous dentist was like 5 months ago and i was fine. Went to a private practice with a real dentist. I needed a single filling which i had taken care of there. They're trying to scare people who are financially not able to afford to go elsewhere and take advantage of them.

They also Will Not transfer your documents to another dentist and will take 2 weeks if you request a copy of your dental history to go elsewhere. But hey if you want someone to try to push an infomercial quality teeth restoring cream they got you covered! You'll See if you go there trust me.

Don't go here. If you do go here, ask for an itemized receipt and CHECK YOUR BILL carefully. I went here for a cleaning, but when I arrived the hygienist was out for the day and they did not call me. So I just had a check up and had to reschedule for my cleaning. During the check up, Dr. Gupta told me I had multiple cavities that my previous dentist, whom I saw just three months before did not tell me about, and said that the one the previous dentist said needed to be refilled was not an issue.

Not knowing who to believe, I took her advice. She took a very short amount of time for three cavities (less than 30 minutes) and said none of them required numbing. This makes me think maybe I didn't need them filled, but perhaps I'm wrong. In any case, the places she filled are uneven and annoying unlike any fillings I've ever had; I even returned to get one of them fixed because it was so uncomfortable.

Then the billing. I requested an itemized receipt because the charge seemed quite high and did not seem to align with my insurance notice. I wasn't positive without a receipt, though, because they had sold me a few things that the insurance didn't cover. I was referred the business manager and spent the next few weeks following up repeatedly to try to get my bill.

When I finally received it, the charges still seemed wrong. I called in, was told the business manager would check it. After again following up repeatedly, I called in one last time and was told that there was a "credit" on my account, and they asked if I would like it to be refunded. There was no reason there should have been a credit on my account; they just overcharged me.

Dr. Gupta is my go to dentist in Ithaca and as a student, I am very thankful for how accessible her office is (can easily take TCAT) and the fact there is a pharmacy close by really helps. Had an infection during finals and she helped resolve the pain within 24 hours with some good advice and antibiotics. Definitely recommend!

Unfortunately I ignored all of the terrible reviews for this place and decided to take my family there. The "dentist" who runs this place told me I'd have to pay out of pocket to fix my teeth. After arguing with her, I went to another dentist who fixed my teeth and SURPRISE my insurance covered it. Then this "back alley" "dentist" refused to see my son, because she was pissed off that I took my business elsewhere (Wilson Dental). The receptionist Kathy lied through her teeth, and didn't have any valid excuse. If you want to find a good, honest dentist DO NOT GO HERE. YOU WILL REGRET IT. :(

I wish I had read reviews or gotten recommendations before I took my young sons here. I only went here because of their insurance. I thought everything seemed normal as the staff are mostly nice, and the office is very professional, but I have never had such a bad experience with a healthcare provider as I did here. Over time, I was told that my children both had issues that they did not have, and constantly felt like I was being lectured, judged and reprimanded.

During one emergency visit, I was wrongly advised to come in, then scolded in front of my child versus the dentist caring for/attending to him appropriately. I was in absolute shock as my child was in pain and scared. I never returned and preferred to pay out-of-pocket at our dentist versus this dishonest, shady operation. Please seek care elsewhere!

Beware if you have Medicaid. This is the WORST dentist I have ever been to. She tried to convince me that my 4yo had 5 cavities that needed filled under anesthesia without even looking at x-rays. Thankfully, I called BS and was able to pay for a consult from someone not tied to Medicaid. 2 years later, my daughter still has NO cavities (we now go to Wilson Dental which does take Medicaid and has been AMAZING about doing the best thing for my child and her teeth, not for their pockets). It's disgusting to me that someone could take advantage and falsely diagnose children in this way - and that folks on Medicaid are then blamed for "sucking the system dry".

If I could give below a zero I WOULD! They took xrays and they never showed me what was wrong, they went right ahead and drilled out 8 teeth that I NEVER HAD PAIN IN BEFORE! I only went there because a previous filling had fallen out. That was the only reason I was going in, I had no pain in any teeth, now all I feel is pain and on top of that after just a few weeks of the fillings I feel and taste the fillings falling out.

I have yet to even see the xrays. I was even told I had to buy their mouthwash and GI Paste, she even said I need to buy a mouthguard even though I have never ground my teeth at night. I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE! I;m so mad, I do not know what to do, my teeth are now ruined for the rest of my life!

I am writing this 5 years after my last visit to this practice. All of the dental work I had here has failed and has had to be replaced.fillings and crowns. I just left my dentist's office and was appalled when he showed me the amount of decay under my crown that I had done there. He said that it was not decay due to my hygiene habits I have another crown that needs to be replaced, too!

After reading some other reviews, I am wondering how many unnecessary procedures I had done during my time there. I trust my current dentist as he's been in practice for a long time and has a great reputation. I don't know what I'm going to do when he retires because Cayuga Family Dental has made it so I don't trust anyone with my teeth anymore. I would avoid this practice at all cost.

I used to go for 3 years. All the cavities I had filled were not cleaned properly before being filled and 2 years later had to have all of them redone.

Factory dentist. I took my son here and declined X-ray and just asked to clean his teeth. They were not happy. Told us he needs a drilling but after a year he's no problem.

I seldom write a review on yelp, but my first review has to go for this one! This place is like the worst and the last option you would like to go for your dental visit. They asked for unreasonable price to regular tooth cavity treatment like fillings, and I always have to pay ABOVE 90 dollars per cavity filling even i have my insurance. I shouldn't come back to this place for routine cleanings after I spent almost 500 dollars to get my 1 cavity done and 2 fillings replaced which my dentist at my home said these two fillings are still fine.

The staff and the dentist keep pressurize me after the hygienist finishing the cleanings, so I ended up spending more and more money to have all the SUSPICIOUS cavities and filling replacements. Oh God! it's such a nightmare. Conclusion: NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE; OTHERWISE, YOU WILL END UP SENDING A LOT OF MONEY THAT'S NOT NECESSARY!

I have been going here for almost 5 years. At every visit I have paid what they thought the difference would be between what my insurence covered and their actual charges. I just recieved a bill from them the other day requesting payment for appointments over 2 years old. Now I understand that they are just estimating at their office, but i would expect to be billed for the difference in a timely fashion.

When calling to ask why I am being billed over 2 years later their business manager (aka the dentists husband) said that was their standard practice and refused to admit any mistake with their extrememly delayed billing. Deffinitely a lack of any respect and care for loyal customers.

I didn't even get in for an appointment and I feel this way. I called to schedule and the woman on the phone was so rude I couldn't bring myself to schedule for my family. I don't usually feel that way but I just thought anyone who felt like this was someone who should be the interacting face of thier practice, I don't want to provide care to my family or myself.

WARNING! Stay away from this place! You'll be SO sorry. First visit they might be overly nice ~ don't let this fool you! Receptionist is the most evil woman I've ever encountered; dentist is pre-occupied by her children running around the office; the "office manager" who is the dentist's ogre of a husband is unbelievably verbally abusive to patients.

We needed to have a root canal done elsewhere (per the dentist). She referred us to someone that we didn't want to go to. When we asked for the x-rays & referral to a different dentist, the secretary gave us a run-around. When I called to see if they were ready she said yes they were. 10 minutes later I arrived to pick them up and she "couldn't find them".

Then the big beast of an office manager came & yelled demanding to know why I wasn't going to the dentist they referred me to. Needless to say there were NO x-rays, etc. that I could take with me. Since I complained to my insurance company about them, the insurance company called them with questions and they told them that I was no longer a patient and that they would NOT give even them any of my records. Now over 1 1/2 years later, I am getting phone calls reminding me to make an appointment. Oh my gosh!

What a sketchy operation! I went here twice while I was a student in Ithaca. I should have realized on my first visit that I should *get out* when I watched a receptionist treat a patient like total sh*t (they were arguing about the amount the patient owed). The hygenist was nice and seemed to do her job fine, but Dr. Gupta spent about two minutes with me, during which time she tried to pressure me into paying extra to get my teeth whitened. (It made me a little insecure, but I asked several honest family members and they all assured me that I do not have yellow teeth.) I also felt very pressured to make a return appointment, and unfortunately, I made one after my first time there.

At the time, I told the receptionist that I did not have my class schedule for the following semester, but she said I could change the time if I needed to. So I made an appointment. But the next semester, when it turned out that I would have to miss a class to make it to the appointment and I called to reschedule, I was told that I would still be charged $25 if I canceled the appointment!

I even explained that that meant I would have to miss an important class, and the receptionist did not care at all. Anyway, shortly after that second appointment, I got a letter from my insurance (I was on the student insurance plan at Cornell) saying something like Dr. Gupta's practice was no longer a covered practice or something (I don't remember exactly what it said--but basically it was clear that it had fallen in the insurance company's hierarchy of dental practices). I had already planned to avoid Cayuga Family Dental from then on anyway. DON'T BE DRAWN IN BY THE HUGE PARKING LOT--AVOID THIS PLACE.

Pros: 1.) Smart, modern, clean practice 2.) Ample, close parking 3.) Good cleanings 4.) Fairly pleasant to deal with 5.) Relatively reasonably priced for cavities, etc. Cons: 1.) Secretary slow 2.) Try to UP-SELL you on EVERYTHING 3.) Sold me a bruxism (teeth grinding) night guard for $300.00, which I have since found on the web for about $175.00, maximum (www.nightguardlabs.com) 4.) Inclined to charge for unnecessary procedures Conclusion: Avoid.
