Services
Visiting the dentist really can be a soothing, wonderful experience -- that is, when you visit The Dental Spa of New York. Here, we pamper you and your smile with the dental procedures you want and need in a relaxing, spa-like setting. With services ranging your general checkup and cleaning to restorative care, dazzling cosmetic dentistry, and so much more, Dr. Frank Sapienza is the dentist in Park Slope creating healthy, gorgeous smiles. What's the secret to creating a healthy smile? It's not really a secret at all.
Second-generation dentist Dr. Frank J. Sapienza has created beautiful Brooklyn smiles for more than 30 years. He opened his private general and cosmetic dental office, The Dental Spa of New York, to bring comfort and clinical excellence to dental patients throughout the greater New York City area. After graduating Cum Laude from New York University with a bachelor's degree and acceptance into Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Sapienza earned his DDS in 1985 at the New York University College of Dentistry.Alongside his father, Dr. Frank Sapienza worked in family dentistry for years before opening The Dental Spa of New York.
If you live in Park Slope, you know how vibrant Brooklyn truly is. Of course by "vibrant, " we mean that there is always a new restaurant, bar, or show to check out, and it keeps you busy in the best possible way. Your time is precious, and when you finally have enough to go to the dentist, you only want to go to one place.
Simon says touch your nose. Simon says touch your knees. Simon says touch your temporomandibular joints. Gotcha, right? Unless you have experienced the pain of temporomandibular joint dysfunction, or TMD, then chances are you don't know where these joints are. Actually, they are pretty easy to find; they are located on either side of your head just in front of your ears.
At The Dental Spa of New York, Dr. Sapienza and his staff of dental hygienists and dental assistants are always looking for new ways to provide patients with the next generation of dental care. We seek new technology, new techniques and new materials to make your experience with the dentist in Park Slope more exceptional and enjoyable.

I'd been seeing Dr. Lo for a few years. I had a gum that was bleeding a lot (didn't seem normal) and he told me it was just caused by plaque. I went to see another dentist to get a second opinion who agreed it wasn't normal, had me see a periodontist, and he did a comprehensive exam and told me I need surgery on my gums, and that it's a more serious issue than I realized. Dr. Lo had just dismissed it.
Last time I was there the receptionist also rescheduled me for a follow up visit 6 months later even though I said I didn't want to make one at that time (she insisted I said I did). Weird place. Definitely better places to go in Park Slope.

Lots of dentists claim they're good with anxious patients, but this office is one of the few that truly is. I came here several times for cleanings (OK, and multiple fillings. OK, and other stuff too. Don't judge me :P ). ANYWAY, I was really impressed by their bedside manner each time. Dr Frank and his assistants tried hard to put me at ease, explained everything they were doing, and asked repeatedly if I was comfortable (the kind of thing every dentist should do!). If you've been putting off your dental checkup because you're as scared as I used to be, you should make an appointment with this office!

The entire staff at The Dental Spa are absolutely amazing, considerate, respectful and extremely professional! Dr. Sapienza is the gold standard of Dentist/Dentistry! A very special thanks to the dental hygienist: Miss Uritza(apologies if I misspelled her name). A very special thanks to Miss Christine. A very special thanks to the entire staff.

I'm a nurse by profession, so you can trust me when I tell you that Dr. Sapienza is PHENOMENAL! He's caring, extremely skilled, great at explaining every detail and rationale during the procedure; his staff is top notch and personable, it felt like family. I had a root canal and usually I need gas or some type of sedative because I freak out, not with Dr. Sapienza!
I actually look forward to going to the dentist! How weird is that?! This place is special, you won't regret it! The ambience is welcoming, very clean, everyone is polite to each other and to the patients, I have recommended him to several friends and coworkers, keep up the great work!

I must be in the minority here. This is my experience and this review is long over due: The younger dentist: -lectured me about dental health like he was reading from a pamphlet and insisted that the tooth that was hurting me, wasn't actually hurting me. He was very condescending. -He nicked my gum during a very subpar cleaning and I now have a permanent pocket in my gum (front teeth) that collects food. -The next day I had a big hole in my back tooth where a filing used to be--AFTER the cleaning.
This was not there before my visit and I can't figure out how it happened. The older (not old) dentist: -Very pleasant and lots of people seem happy with his services. -His assistant touches things in the room and then puts her fingers in your mouth. -The room smelled really putrid when I entered. Previous client? -He told me he could only do one filling, when I was scheduled for three.
I knew I needed to get all three done at once or I would chicken out. I was surprised that no one called to tell me I would not be getting the service I planned for. -Convinced me to get a mental filling over porcelain. I trusted his judgement. -My tooth broke during the filling and he covered almost all of my tooth in grey metal (hello zombie tooth) which looks and tastes awful. -He did not explain what had happened and I had to ask to see my tooth in the mirror before I left.
Only then did he say, "your tooth broke" like it had nothing to do with him. -I went back for the other two fillings, but he had forgotten that he had broken my now hideous melted looking tooth and joked that I "shouldn't look at it" and I might need a root canal. -Neither dentist would prescribe anything for the pain of the numbing needle, so I chickened out of the other two fillings. -The dentist said there was a crack in another tooth that wold not require numbing (no one mentioned this so-called crack during my x-ray consultation) and he wanted to fill it.
I agreed, but later realized it was an unnecessary procedure. My best experience was with the dental hygienist. She was very gentle, but also thorough, and seemed to take my questions and concerns seriously. I would see her again any day. I don't like to leave negative reviews, but these are my teeth. I'm so disappointed by my overfilled grey tooth, the lack of seriousness taken by my complaints, my nicked gum, and the mysterious hole, which is hard to keep clean. I mean, seriously. I think I'm better of with a more modern, transparent dentist, and I will not be going back.

I chipped my tooth the day before Christmas Eve and looked all over for someone to squeeze me in. I eventually found the Dental Spa, and they were able to see me. I really didn't have high hopes, but was I ever surprised! The staff were all so kind, knowledgeable, and cheerful. Dr Frank is an artist with the drill and has the greatest bedside manner.
He took the time to explain my x-rays and the whole procedure while he was performing it. The humming and jokes are just an added bonus! I have found my new dentist and already made an appointment to come back for a check-up. In short, I cannot recommend the folks at the Dental Spa highly enough to do them justice.

Who says they love going to the dentist? ME. I do! This is the very best dental experience ever! So nice, from your first phone call. Look, due to money, laziness, procrastination, all of the above, I hadn't been to the dentist in.a long time. Bad girl! But, the dentists and hygienists here didn't make me feel guilty or bad about it, they know what it's like with no insurance, and money factors.
They just do! And they made the amount of things going on in my mouth seem like not such a big deal, totally doable, and they reassured me that I could take the time I needed. They broke it down as to what was the most important, and the rest could wait until I could do it. That's all, plain and simple. It's a beautiful and comfortable office, everything is done to make you at ease and feel great. And, the prices are completely reasonable. Believe me, if you need a dentist, get yourself over here! They are the very best!

Dr. Frank is the BEST dentist! I cannot speak highly enough of his expertise, professionalism, sensitivity, and kindness he has shown me continually over the past eight years. His receptionists and hygienists are equally professional and kind. No matter the issue, Dr. Frank will take the time to listen, understand, and explain the problem you are experiencing.
He is a calming and reassuring presence that can make your (potentially uncomfortable) experience at the dentists' an enjoyable one. Thank you, Dr. Frank, for your continued excellent care!

Dr. Sapienza is the best. I've been a patient for 5+ years now and wouldn't think of going to someone else. He's personable, gentle, and generous. My affinity for Dr. Frank was only strengthened when he did a veneer on my top front tooth. I was very apprehensive but it came out perfectly, and my only regret now is that I didn't do it sooner. Everyone is really impressed with his work. You can't even tell it's there!

The staff was great from receptionist to dentist. I haven't been to the dentist in ages and they all took part in restoring my great smile to perfection. I came here because I purchased a dental care plan and they accept the care credit card which is a plus plus. I've seen a mention of them giving you sweets but the pleasant hygienist explained it was only like on weekends. That's ok for me. Overall it was a welcoming experience and I'm happy to call them a place to handle my dentistry needs.

I've been going to the Dental Spa for a few years now, and it's honestly a great experience. Dr. Sapienza and his staff really care about not only your oral health, but your overall health as well. The facility is very comfortable and "homey" and everyone is friendly. For me the best thing about the Dental Spa is that Dr. Sapienza and his staff are great about educating their patients.
They take away the mystery by telling you why/how cavities form, what they are doing with your teeth, why you should brush/floss a certain why, why you have sensitivity, etc. This allows you to make better, more educated choices when it comes to caring for your teeth. I always value professionals that take the time to educate their clients, and The Dental Spa does a great job at it. As long as I live in New York, I'll be coming back.

Dr. Sapienza and his team/staff are absolutely wonderful! They really make going to the dentist an enjoyable experience, which for me, had never been the case before I started coming here. I really appreciate Dr. Sapienza's wait and see approach as he doesn't act on certain things until it is absolutely necessary. I look forward to each visit because I know I'm in the hands of knowledgeable, professional and friendly care providers! All in all, 5 stars for The Dental Spa of New York!

I have been going to Dr. Frank Sapienza for about 7 years now. His staff and office make any dental appointment a pleasure to go to. Whenever we go for appointments he is always fantastic to talk to. Dr. Frank and his staff are helpful when you have any teeth issues that need immediate assistance. He greets everyone with a smile. His friendly staff greet us with smiles as well every time.
My whole family goes there and even with a husband frightened by years of bad dentists he enjoys going to get his teeth checked. I can't say enough great things about his practice. We do journey from NJ to Brooklyn just to get cleanings/checkups a good dentist is hard to find and one you can trust to be honest and not do unnecessary work is rare. I highly recommend anyone who wants a great dentist with reasonable prices and who actually improves your dental health to give this office a try. You won't be disappointed!

My wife and I have been going to the Dental Spa for almost two years since we moved to the neighborhood, and we couldn't be happier with the service and professionalism. The Dental Spa is well organized, uses email and text messaging for appointment reminders, and I can't remember having an appointment where I've ever had to wait. They are quick and friendly, and as a practice perform to the highest standard.
Our hygienists (usually Olga) are thorough, and Dr. Frank is always present at every cleaning to make sure there are no lingering or new issues. More than anything, we appreciate Dr. Frank's kindness and sense of humor (in addition to his solid knowledge of his field). I think that The Dental Spa realizes that no one really likes the dentist or looks forward to a cleaning or fillings, and so they are careful to make you feel at home and comfortable.
This is probably the best experience I've ever had with a dentist, and I've had about ten of them in my lifetime. Keep up the great work, and thanks for taking good care of our teeth!

I was heartbroken when I saw The Dental Spa of New York only have 4.5 stars. Absolutely unacceptable. I've been seeing Dr. Frank for a few years and all of my friends know him by name. They cringe if anyone outside our group mentions a dentist or tooth. They know I'm about to rant about loving my dentist. They are quite busy so you need to book in advance but it's because they are so flipping fantastic.

The Dental Spa has been taking good care of me and my chompers for a while now, and they do a great job. Everyone there is always pleasant and upbeat - they know they're there to be your dental experts, but they don't act like teeth are the only thing in the universe and that you're a disappointment to the human race every time you get a cleaning. I always head right for the massage chairs in the back - why not get a Brookstone experience while you wait for your appointment?

I have been extremely happy with the service I've received from the Dental Spa. My previous dentist joined a new "high-end" practice and doubled his rates. So I asked my friends and colleagues for a referral. I received two very enthusiastic referrals for Dr. Sapienza. My friends were absolutely right. I've had no problem at all getting or moving appointments.
In fact, they have called me when they have an earlier or better spot open up to see if I'd like to take it. They text me appointment reminders too, which is so helpful. Dr. Sapienza had a great chairside manner - very informative, very connected and very empathetic. I also like that we have a plan for my teeth, and he helps me make informed decisions.
One of the things I noticed was that they are very good with hygiene. For example, they changed the plastic handle cover on the overhead light before he started working on my mouth. You really don't see that level of attentiveness very often. His staff is professional and very nice as well. After all these years in New York, I feel as though my teeth are finally in safe hands (figuratively, or course - they're still actually in my mouth).

I've been going to the Dental Spa for about 5 years and it has been the best dental experience I've had in my life, thanks to the dentist/owner, Dr. Frank. He has always been nothing but warm, professional, knowledgeable and committed to making each experience a positive one. He identified a major problem with my jaw (odontogenic cyst) which, if undetected, would have lead to very dire consequences.
He is very skilled and the visits are never painful, also a great "bedside manner" that inspires confidence. Additionally I like his hygenist, and the space itself is very unique--it literally is a "spa" with massage chairs, a Keurig, foot warmers and paraffin treatment. Highly recommended. A very personal, mom&pop feeling.

Sigh. apparently getting that first appointment is just not enough. I don't know WHAT the hell goes on with their scheduling system, but once again. for a followup appointment that I booked SIX months in advance. it was once again screwed up. I had a 7pm appointment. only to show up at the office at 7pm on the dot to find it closed and locked.
They apparently thought the appointment was for 6pm. Good thing I learned from my experience the first time around and kept the little appointment card that very clearly said 7pm, otherwise I would have thought myself crazy. Sorry Dental Spa, I wanted to love you. but this is just maddening. I understand you're a popular joint so you probably don't need my business, so don't worry any more. you no longer have it.

It had been 10 years since my last dental appointment when I first visited Dr. Frank's office. I had one of those seemingly universal dentist horror stories which had curtailed my ever wanting to visit another. Today, as I left from the last of many appointments to get my teeth in shape, I actually found myself upset that I wouldn't be seeing the staff as much. Dr. Sapienza knows his dentistry.
He is quick, concise, and has never put me in any pain. He explains what he is doing and why, is totally in tune with the patient's needs, and ask him to tell you some dentist jokes - hilarious. Once, while waiting for the novocaine to kick in, we watched the dentist song from Little Shop of Horrors on Youtube and cracked up the whole time. He broke down the cost of every procedure for me and was honest and thorough (and very reasonably priced). I've never had any problem with scheduling appointments or if I am running late.
The automated e-mail and text reminders are great and you can even confirm your appointment via text. See Dr. Frank and forget about those dentist horror stories - now you can laugh at them with your awesome dentist.

I was originally blown away by this place. I came from a dentist that had misdiagnosed me and at first, this place seemed like the perfect solution. The office interior was gorgeous, the front desk crew was a little snappy, but seemed nice overall, dentist was great, and they accepted my insurance. My appointment was in March 2011 and Dr. Sapienza said I had no cavities/need for root canal, (which my original dentist recommended), but said he needed my xrays from my original dentist first before he could completely dismiss the need for a filling.
After months of calling and emailing the front desk and trying to get things straightened out with them, they finally received the 3rd set of xrays sent to them. Dr. Sapienza said he was going to look over the x-rays and just shoot me an e-mail that everything looked okay. I never heard from him again and he did not respond to my repeated calls and e-mails, so forget about him ever looking at my xrays, like he said he would.
Cut ahead to January 2012 (nearly a year later): I get a call from the office saying that they need me to call in to verify some information on my account. I figure it's them calling to say I waited too long for my 6 month check-up and needed to make an appointment now. Instead, I call in and they tell me that they cannot accept my insurance plan and that I owe $205 for my appointment back in March, which was ONLY a dental exam and cleaning, no xrays. Worst of all, THEY SENT ME TO COLLECTIONS and said that it was for my refusal to pay the bill!
I NEVER was notified of a bill or problem with my insurance up until this point and now I have to deal with collections on my account. I have NEVER had a problem with my credit, collections, payments, etc and now I have to deal with this because they can't get their heads out of the clouds.

Wow! The most thorough cleaning & exam I've ever had. My teeth looked & felt GREAT! More importantly, Dr Sapienza suggested a specialist who he works with frequently to save a tooth that prior doctors told me was LOST. He encouraged me to tell him every little complaint I've ever had over the years & addressed each issue. This immaculate neat office is never crowded, the wait is usually only a few minutes & I am never rushed. Comfy dental chairs & you can even request a little footwarmer! LOVE THEM! ** The only caveat is that appointments are booked in advance, they do not over book so the wait for an appointment can be up to a month. This is actually why the office environment feels so nice & relaxed.

The few times I have been here have so far been the best dental experiences I have ever had! Dr. Frank Sapienza is extremely careful, precise and attentive to my needs. I have a jaw that is prone to click and I have an incredible fear that one of these days it'll click shut and in my panic to reopen it I will bite down on whatever instrument is in my mouth at the moment.
I made him aware of this issue only ONCE and now every time I see him he reminds me that he knows and that I only have to open my mouth as far as I can comfortably. He reminds me that if I have any discomfort or I need a break to just raise my hand or tap him. No other dentist has ever been this attentive to me. He is friendly and you can tell that he really takes pride in his craft.
You have to appreciate that in a person. I am absolutely floored by the service and treatment I get from the Dental Spa and Dr. Sapienza! I will be coming here for a long, long time!

I am glad I found this place! Nice big couch when you walk in, along with a coffee and tea bar, and sometimes you might find baked goods. It's like being in someones living room. They offer massaging feet warmers while you get your work done. The doc has all the latest gadgets and equipment. The chairs come attached with LCDs and cable TV. Getting your X-Rays is an experience.
You watch your skull generate on a screen real time as the machine rotates around your gourd. There is a green room which offers massage chairs. Things to note: Warm and inviting atmosphere High Tech Super clean Friendly knowledgeable staff Charismatic Dentist Negative: The place is so popular that you might have to wait weeks to get an appointment.
