I am a UNC-trained Orthodontist and thrilled to be part of the team at Nelson Orthodontics! My family fell in love with North Carolina when we moved here 15 years ago from Brazil, and I am committed to caring for our vibrant community in the years to come. A bit about my training: I received my D.D.S. degree in 2005 from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, before moving to the US to complete a Master of Science and Certificate of Operative Dentistry at UNC in 2010.Then, I joined the University of Louisville, Kentucky as a faculty member teaching operative dentistry.
Upon completion of his undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Griffies went on to earn his professional education from Baylor College of Dentistry. He received his certificate in orthodontics from the U.S. Army Orthodontic Training Program at Fort Meade and practiced dentistry and orthodontics in the Army for 22 years.
As a courtesy to you and your family dentist, we will always discuss the feasibility of braces or tooth straightening without charging a fee for the initial consultation. As a rule of thumb, we like to evaluate young patients after the 6-year molars erupt and the front permanent teeth just start to appear.
Dr. Chauncy Nelson will conduct a thorough clinical orthodontic examination and explain all aspects of treatment himself. If orthodontic treatment is indicated at this time, an appointment for Diagnostic Records is scheduled. If time allows, these diagnostic records can be taken at the initial visit.

This is an awesome place, no waiting around. Kind people. Dr. Nelson is great. I recommend this place with a smile. The only thing is --they need to buy new seats in the waiting area and office. The seats need to be cleaned or replaced. Looks like Peepee or splatters of something. Everything else, very clean.

My daughter's best friend informed us about this office! She spoke nothing but great things and everything she said was all correct! Everyone was polite, patient and professional! My daughter has needed braces for awhile now but I honestly know everything happens for a reason! It was meant for us to wait and allow Nelson Orthodontist to provide her with her braces! As a parent I just know timing is everything and I am very happy we waited! I love this OFFICE

Wonderful office. Wonderful Orthodontist. Today I visited after doing some yelp research to find a pediatric orthodontist that would see my daughter and accept our insurance. Our dentist provided a referral to another provider that was not very helpful. Dr. Nelson came highly recommended on Yelp. The staff here is very kind and professional. They explained everything to me during my first call to make an appointment. Dr. Nelson has a very charming personality.
He made my daughter feel comfortable, he completed the consultation quickly but not in a hurry. His assistant gave all the details, provided professional follow up with our pediatric dentist and was able to obtain my daughter's x-rays from the other office rather quickly. The office is modern, comfortable and spacious. They have adorable American Girl Dolls on display. I highly recommend this office for your little one's or teen's orthodontic care.

Dr. Nelson and his team are the most welcoming, amazing, and knowledgeable people I have ever seen. They took care of me during each visit for my appointments. I recently got braces off, and took care of my teeth and are looking amazing. They answered every single question I have had during these past 2 1/2 years. I would recommend Dr. Nelson and his team to anyone!
