I don't normally right bad reviews but I feel I have to this time. This is my experience with Apex family Dental, Lai-Fong Lee DDS, 2797 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, in February 2019: 1) I was lied to about the acceptance of my PPO dental insurance. (They said they accepted it before treatment but despite being listed on the PPO website they refused to honor it after treatment). 2) In the opinion of another dentist excessive and unnecessary treatment was proposed for my child, and due to the fact that they refused to honor the PPO, the treatment plan involved a $1,000 copay. 3) I was talked down to and treated like a someone in poverty by the extraordinarily rude lady on the reception desk when I asked why they wouldn't honor the insurance plan: "We don't accept your PPO.
Why don't you go to one of those clinics where you have to wait 4 hours to get treated". 4) After completing a filling on my tooth I was told by the dentist, ""You probably shouldn't use this tooth for chewing as it might break"!? Sure enough, it still aches one week after treatment. 5) Half way through my treatment plan I received a letter from Lai-Fong Lee withdrawing care. Detail: Was looking for a dentist closer to my home as the previous one was a little far away.
My family is fortunate to be members of a Dental PPO insurance so went to the website to search for an in network dentist. Apex Family Dental was listed so I went there to make an appointment. Showed my card, was told they accept my insurance and made an appointment for me and my two kids. Went in for the appointment, the kids got a tooth cleaning while I got a filling.
My treatment was ok, but afterwards the dentist said I shouldn't use the tooth ""Because it might break". Tell me, why do a filling on a tooth that you know will not solve the problem? But anyway, I let it pass, but then the dentist told me my son needed 8 fillings on his teeth. I was pretty surprised because we had visited the previous dentist regularly and six months prior he had only proposed two fillings.
I asked to see my kids X rays and although I am not a dentist, I couldn't see the grey areas of cavity that were supposed to be there, and the dentist wasn't very convincing when I pressed her. Anyway, got the treatment plan for my kid and on seeing the $1,000 copay for fillings with some items not covered I asked the receptionist about it. She then told me that it is because they do not in fact accept the PPO although she had told me previously that they did and they are listed as an in network provider on the PPO website.
This is when she decided to insult me by suggesting that we should go to a low class "Clinic", "Where patients need to wait 4 hours", rather than a real dentist like Apex. Well, silly me, thinking that having a PPO dental plan would get you better treatment. The same day I called the PPO plan help desk and they assured me that Lai Fong Lee is in fact an in network provider in the PPO plan. One week after visiting Apex I took my kid to the regular dentist who confirmed that only two fillings are required and accepted the PPO insurance without any copay.

Dr. Lee is such a good dentist. My family had some dental issues that our previous dentists were not able to fix, and she took care of them without any problem! She also found issues that were overlooked and if had been left alone, would have developed into serious tooth decay! The office staff are very nice, and we feel well taken cared of!
