Dare I say I look forward to, maybe even enjoy going for my routine cleanings. Dr Citron is so attentive and knowledgeable and I love that he does the cleaning, super thorough and gentle but effective. I had veneers done somewhere else and he helped tailor my oral needs around it and recommended the best toothpaste for sensitive teeth - two years later my teeth have remineralized and all sensitivity gone, couldn't be happier.

Let me begin my review by stating that I am NOT a patient of Dr. Citron. I found Dr. Citron here on Yelp when an unexpected accident occurred, resulting in a tooth cracking and the filling it housed became loose and eventually came out. Of course, this happened last June during the pandemic (thanks 2020!). To make matters worse, my dentist was in New York City, and due to NYC being a global hotspot in the early phase of CoV2 showing up in the US, NYC businesses had been closed for months, which resulted in my dentist retiring his practice June 30th.
I was not about to risk my health by hopping on a plane to JFK and even if I would've done so, I would've had to then quarantine for 14 days, which would've been a week or more past the date he was retiring his practice. That is when I turned to Yelp to find a local dentist whose front office staff might not gasp and recoil in horror at the thought of a complete stranger asking to be seen for an x-ray in the midst of a global viral pandemic that science was contemplating as being transmitted via aerosolized droplets from our exhalations. (i.e. dentistry had suddenly become an extremely risky business).
I called Dr. Citron's office and spoke to his front-office staff, who were lovely and understanding. I explained the situation, told them I completely understood the risk they take every time a patient opens their mouth, and explained how I had chosen to quarantine alone, to keep myself healthy, to protect others, and to be a part of the solution to mitigate community spread until an effective treatment was discovered (at that time, an effective vaccine was likely 2-3 years away, at the soonest).
They listened with empathy and seemed to appreciate my candor and my concern for their health. I was not in any pain, thankfully, so I let them know this was urgent but not an emergency. They very graciously were able to squeeze me in for an x-ray. I can't tell you how grateful I was then to Dr. Citron's staff for being willing to not only squeeze me into their already busy schedule, especially as difficult as PPE was for them to come by at that time (the demand in ICUs across the globe had seriously drained the global supply), but also to be willing to take such a risk on a total stranger they had no obligation to help.
Most people have no idea how much risk dental hygienists, dentists, and other back-office staff take every day that they choose to go to work and do their job during the CoV2 pandemic. Dentistry is probably the most dangerous profession to be in right now, and these professionals don't have the same level of protective equipment you see those treating CoVid19 patients wearing. PRO TIP: Be an empathic person and a decent human being.
Before you go see your dentist, be sure to gargle Listerine Cool Mint mouthwash for at least 30 seconds. That will help protect them (and anyone else you come in contact with sans mask) by reducing the viral load significantly if the virus is present and you happen to be one of the lucky ones who remains asymptomatic despite becoming infected. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/08/200810103239.htm

Very good thorough dentist. I had to go to him because of a cracked tooth emergency during the pandemic. I felt he did a great job and pays attention to detail. I had to have a crown, first one and was a little hesitant but very happy with the results. Also had a cleaning - one of the best I ever had. I am not one to give high marks easily but felt he really goes the extra mile.

Too all of those wondering, "is Mike P. still seeing Dr. Citron?", you bet your ass I am. Chiming in nearly 3 years later, and the experience has only gotten better. Dr. C upgraded the office digs this year, but hasn't let his well-deserved success go to his head. Since my first post, I've relocated to San Francisco, but twice yearly make my pilgrimage to the East Bay at 7 a.m. to see Dr. C. Hell, I look forward to it! Dr. Citron remains the best dentist in the Bay Area, hands down, bar none.
What are you waiting for? Stop seeing your current, loser dentist (sorry, I'm sure that he or she is a very nice person) and get with Dr. C! Also, please subscribe to my SoundCloud. Just kidding, but what I'm not kidding about is how great Dr. C is! To paraphrase the greatest thinker of a generation, Shia LaBeouf (and date myself in the process), "Don't let your dreams [of having a capable, kind and effective dentist] be dreams!" Go see Dr. C today!

Dr Citron was recommended to me by another dentist who changed professions. Several MDs I know go to him and I think I've been seeing him for over a decade. He is astonishingly kind and practical and gentle although he looks like a football player. He doesn't do razzle dazzle or have a 3D printer for crowns and only recently got a dental hygienist and part time partner. Yeah, old school private practice who doesn't gouge you.
He gets Cal students, he gets Alta Bates staff, he gets all kinds. The office staff is small, it was good ole Sonja and Chloe for a long time. He is just plain reasonable. I feel like I'm seeing a brother or uncle. "Well, you want a filling or shall I file it down or you want to wait it out?". What can you say to someone like that but thanks, I appreciate you, I'll be back.

Made an appointment weeks ago and when I came in, the front desk was watching a movie in the dark and barely acknowledged that I existed, handed me a form, and then after filling it out was told that the dentist doesn't accept my insurance. Wasn't informed on the phone when I made the appointment. A waste of time and a total disappointment.

Updating my review. It turns out that I've now been going to Dr. Citron for 15 years, and I'm as delighted with him and his dental practice now as ever. I'm updating my review because they've recently moved offices and I just had my first visit at the new office. It's modern and well-equipped. The exam rooms in the old office were small; the ones in the new office are fully ADA accessible, to the extent that a dentist in a wheelchair could serve a patient in a wheelchair (I'm not in a wheelchair, but I was impressed at the space, and Dr. Citron told me that that's what it was designed around.) The new office has new equipment but the same friendly, personable staff.
Plus there's a new dentist working with him as well; I didn't schedule my appointment with her but I met her after the visit and I wouldn't hesitate to schedule future appointments with her.

I made an appointment for December 28th like 2 weeks ago, and I scheduled everything for that date so that I don't have to go to work (I have a long commute to work from Berkeley everyday) on that date and take care of a lot of things - like taking my wife to a driving test at Oakland DMV etc. I received a call from the office telling me that the doctor will not work on that date and just canceled me and my wife's appointment. This has ruined my plan, and I am very disappointed. If you set up an appointment please keep them or do not make it in the first place.

I used to hate going to the dentist because all of the ones I went to made me anxious, were expensive, and always tried to sell me things I didn't need like teeth whiteners, invisaline or filling replacements. Then I finally went to see Dr. Citron. He's amazing! So down to earth, gentle, friendly and reassuring. He's also efficient, so you'll be in and out in no time. I'm so glad I switched to his practice a couple years ago and now I take my kids there as well.
His office is right near Alta Bates Hospital. He recently moved to a bigger space and invested in state of the art equipment so he's taking on new patients. Call him today - you won't be sorry!

I've had a very positive experience with this practice, friendly front office and Dr. Citron's professional and engaged approach to my dental needs. My dental problems extended beyond his scope (need oral surgeon) but he was honest, ethical and will return for my regular dental needs, will give his name (gladly!) if someone asks me if I know of a great dentist!

Dr. Cintron rocks. Totally checks all the boxes - Good dentist? Yes, Dr. Citron knows his craft and is gifted with very gentle hands - Takes insurance? Yep, no problem - Reasonable prices? Yes. In a world of unnecessary services and opaque pricing, Dr. Citron will get you in-and-out with exactly what you need at a very fair price - Well run office? Yep. Appointments start on time and end on time - Good guy to be around? Absolutely. Dr. Citron and his staff are pleasant but professional Absolutely recommend
